No, Trump did it first last May

"Saudi Arabia opens airspace to Israel for first time ever for Air India flight bound for Tel Aviv," the headline in the Independent read.

While that is big news, and certainly a milestone in the normalization of relations between Mecca and Jerusalem, the fact is one man already flew directly from Saudi Arabia to Israel without bothering with the side trip to Cyprus.

Donald John Trump.

The American press ignored it.

I cited the story prominently in Fake News Follies of 2017, because the book is not just about what they reported, but what they failed to report.

The news they kept to themselves.

"The Saudis feted the president, embracing his Jewish daughter, Ivanka, and his wife, Melania. The president, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross sword-danced with the Saudis. This celebrated a deal between the Trump administration and the Saudi regime. Incurious about what the deal was, the press blew it off as just a weird ceremony," I wrote.

"Air Force One then became the first plane to travel directly from Riyadh to Ben Gurion Airport in Lod, Israel, a sign that nearly seventy years of hostility had ended. President Trump was bringing the world together to fight a common enemy — terrorists — with Arabs and Muslims leading the battle, not Westerners."

None of that made the news.

We have the laziest and dumbest press in the world.

This story today is big news. Notice Air India is the first. India is the second-largest country in the world, and also second-to-Israel in wars with Muslims.

"Saudi Arabia opened its airspace for the first time to a commercial flight to Israel with the inauguration of an Air India route between New Delhi and Tel Aviv," the Independent reported.

"Flight 139 landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport after a seven-and-a-half hour journey, marking a diplomatic shift for Riyadh that Israel says was fuelled by shared concern over Iranian influence in the region."

It flew for three hours eight miles high over Saudi Arabia. That is one huge country.

Direct flights, such as Trump's, will come someday.

A lot is going on in the world. You would not know this by reading the American press, which thinks it is leading a resistance against a totalitarian government.

The reality is they prefer a totalitarian. They were hoping Obama would be one.

  1. "The reality is they prefer a totalitarian."
    Exactly right.

    1. Islam is for the sheep of the world who need to be led.

  2. A lot has been happening in the Middle East that is not being reported. Major events have been undertaken on the sly. When the truth and the scope of what is taking place is revealed everyone will be amazed. General McMaster wasn't fired. His mission was accomplished and he is retiring. A new phase of foreign relations and diplomacy is about to begin. That's where John Bolton and Mike Pompeo will step forward. - Elric

  3. Wading through the noozbath this morning is a particularly disgusting slog with all the Trump bashing going on. It's nice to find the occasional tidbit of sanity like the post here. Trump made the first flight from SA to Israel, but that was Air Force One. What is first here is establishing a scheduled ROUTE; a VERY BIG DEAL.
PDJT is a master student of Sun-Tzu. He and his stellar team determined that the budget battle with the swamp could not be won at this time without compromising many other issues we don't see from our superficial view. I have no doubt that the big picture is not lost.

  4. They’d have published the story if it had been leaked by “an unnamed source with close ties to the White House.”

    1. And also added that PDJT mistook a burka for a napkin while wn route.

  5. There is the difference between commercial air travel and government travel like AF1.

The commercial travel is much, much, much more significant. That represents actual normalization of relations between nations. Regular scheduled air flight over will (I Pray) lead to actual regular scheduled air flight between.
