First 500 new jobs added under Trump Tariffs

President Trump has America fighting back in the continuing trade war. Just because we did not fight back previously does not mean the absence of one. It simply means we have been losing the trade war.

Our trade deficits were $800 billion last year, according to The Donald.

That is unsustainable. His warning that he will impose tariffs on imported aluminum and steel have rallied those industries. U.S. Steel will re-open a plant closed by imported steel dumped on the USA.

"We're really excited to be able to tell our employees in the community in Granite City, Illinois, that we will be calling back 500 employees," U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt told CNBC.

That's not a Trump state, and likely never will be one.

Oh wait, we now have a president of the entire United States, not just the ones that elected him.

And we also have a president who fights for America, who stands up for the people, and who does not look at lost jobs in the abstract.

This president does not sneer at people who did not go to an Ivy League college like he did.

45 years of 12 hour days teaches one to appreciate those who toil.

"Burritt said the facility had been idle since December 2015 because of what he called unfair trade practices," CNBC reported.

We have gone from this.

To this.

The media chose to go to war with Donald John Trump in 2017 rather than accept him as president.

The media chose poorly.

Fake News Follies of 2017 shows how and why.

What readers are saying:

Rob Miller: "What we have here is nothing less than a detailed, well written chronicle of exactly how the American press abandoned all semblance of scruples and journalistic ethics once Donald J. Trump became president. Like Surber's other books, this one will have you laughing out loud and you will find it difficult to put down."

PSD: "Like his other books, it is written with wonderful wit filled insight, rare in political commentary today. The style is one of gentle humor and common sense. It is refreshingly devoid of malice and partisan contempt, easy reading with not a few laughs along the way."

rurallbob: "Another winner from Don Surber."

Richard: "Funny, well written and well organized, Fake News Follies is an entertaining and thoughtful look at the news coverage provided by the press to the American people. Clearly they are not playing it straight. Sure, the press makes mistakes. It's inevitable. But when the totality of news stories not hewing to the known facts is collected and presented as it is in this volume there is but one explanation. Fake News. Don Surber brings to the subject insight that only a veteran newsman could provide. I wish this book would be read by everyone but especially people opposed to Trump because I think it would be sufficient to challenge even a closed off worldview."

A. Brogden: "Unlike Kurtz 's book, Media Madness, which sought to justify and explain away the lies and prejudices of the anti-Trump MSM, Surber relentlessly and methodically documents the tsunami of BS the press has served up since the upset victory by President Trump. Almost without exception everything Trump has done as president has been distorted, mischaracterized, or flat out lied about for over a year. This is how you get 90% negative reporting. This is how you get the press with 28% trust ratings. And by God this is how you get eight years of Trump as President."

A Kindle reader: "Easy read, a great compilation of biased new coverage of Trump before and after the election. I started out anti Trump and reluctantly voted for him for one reason only, He was not Hillary. This book is a great reference when people claim the MSM is not biased and does not publish fake news. It reinforces Glenn Reynolds description of the press as Democrat operatives with bylines."

Fake News Follies of 2017 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at for details. I am including a "director's cut." I will give you the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the Fake News Follies of 2017.

  1. The President standing on the head of the snake (serpent) brings to mind a Biblical image, directly from Genesis 3.

    1. "Let the Hero, born of Woman, crush the Serpent with his heel." -- Battle Hymn of the Republic

  2. Whatever happened to the 10,000 jobs that USS Steel promised if Trump was elected? Gosh-darn, I guess that they didn't materialize. Then there is the problem of 25% higher steel prices that will make demand for American automobiles drop like a rock. Next will come the Obama-like trick of putting taxpayer funds into steel companies for cost-saving robots and what we will see is run-away steel prices, higher inflation rates, more deficit spending - and a reduced demand for steelworkers. 1. All I hear is wah wah wah, whining whining whining.
Go back to pretending Trump is the only leader ever anywhere to be in favor of tarriffs

    2. Your tears are sweet to us.

    3. gad, what we hear from you is that wah, wah, wah that the Peanuts kids hear in the cartoons when adults speak: sound which makes no sense.

  3. Gadfly, you are a complete and ever living idiot. If you know all the answers ,why are you wasting your time here with your BS.Go make some money and write a good comic book, might turn into a movie with Gadfly as the hero.

    1. Mr. Fly is back off his meds again. Dang. For a little bit there he was getting better. Not any more. Oh well. It'll be fun to jam his head into a big pile of cowshit once yet another of Mr. T's prophecies comes to pass.

  4. Naughton! What a mensch. I love his paintings. -- BJ54
