Common sense gun control

Republican Senator Susan Collins introduced what she called common-sense gun control. If you get on a no-fly list, you don't get to buy a gun.

Way to violate two constitutional amendments which protect the right to keep and bear arms, as well as the one covering due process. I thought legislation was limited to violating no more than one constitutional amendment.

Bonus: none of the shooters were on the no-fly list, thus her proposal  is unconstitutional and ineffective.

But if we can have common sense gun control, why not have common sense abortion?

Abortion would be performed only with the written consent of the baby.

Why not common sense press control?

Anonymous sources can only be used if they use their names. This way we can hold them accountable.

Why not common sense equal pay control?

Instead of raising the pay of women to what men receive, reduce the pay of the men. Obviously, they are being paid too much if women are willing to work doing the same thing for less money.

And finally, why not common sense on term limits?

Everyone else gets two terms, Donald Trump gets four.

The media chose to go to war with Donald John Trump in 2017 rather than accept him as president.

The media chose poorly.

From Leslie Eastman's review at Legal Insurrection:
Surber, a recovering journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been cataloging the #FakeNews that has been regularly offered as serious analysis of President Donald Trump’s actions, policies, and opinions. He has brought his enormous collection together in the longest, most serious book he has yet written: Fake News Follies of 2017.
Fake News Follies of 2017 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at for details. I am including a "director's cut." I will give you the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the Fake News Follies of 2017.

  1. Ever notice that the people who say we should all be using our real names on all internet postings have no problem with the press using anonymous sources?

  2. Common sense has become highly uncommon.

  3. They tried the no fly list gambit last year. It was so full of holes that it never flew. Won’t again this year. Was Collins asleep during last years attempt or does she think we are as dumb as her?

    1. Collins is throwing up another "common sense smoke screen". The thing sounds reasonable to many ears, which is all she cares about. The fact that it falls apart as soon as someone tries drafting legislation is irrelevant so long as the soundbite *sounds good* to people who are not intense about gun control one way or the other.

And really, isn't sounding out words of sweet reason to calm everything down when you already know that no legislation of any consequence will pass truly what is important here?

    3. Dumb people cannot understand that other people are smarter.

  4. Having a sister-in-law that lives in Maine, I can tell you that Collins is a perfect match to her constituents. Maine has had the problem exhibited by Collins going back to the mid 1700s.

The phrase "Dumb as a bag of hair" comes to mind, but I didn't say that, and I was never here.

  5. Common-sense legislation is like that: it exhibits very little actual common sense.

  6. Thank you, I needed a good laugh today. Keep up the good work.

  7. What is wrong with those folks in Maine? Susan Collins is another poster geezer for term limits. That's the best they can do?

    1. Watch out! Their next may be worse. Tennesee cannot get a really conservative senator for anything. Maybe this time. --BJ54

  8. Put her on the No-Fly list.

  9. No known rules on how to get on the no fly list, or to get off. Just like taking guns then performing due process; 4th Amendment protection ignored.
