"Trump plan to offer citizenship to 1.8 million undocumented immigrants," the BBC reported.
How did the illegal aliens react?
"Let's call this proposal for what it is: a white supremacist ransom note. Our fear, our pain, and our lives must not be used to shackle our parents and ban those seeking refuge; we must not be used to tear apart the moral fabric of this country," the group United We Dream said in a statement.
Thus we see the real issue here is not citizenship, but rather more racism, more anger, and more hatred toward American natives who fashioned the greatest land of all.
Trump knew this. He wanted to provoke an over-the-top, anti-American reaction that discredits this fake movement.
The press did not see this. They saw it as a cave in by Trump because the press has hoped and hoped and hoped for a cave in by Trump that would finally end his support from those deplorables.
Over at the National Review, Mark Krikorian, in his 23rd year as executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, called Trump's deal "The Art of the Choke."
"The White House has botched the DACA issue, cutting Bob Goodlatte’s House bill off at the knees and making it more likely that either there will be no bill at all or that any final bill the president signs (which is guaranteed to be even weaker than this) will fatally demoralize Republican voters in November. If the latter happens, the president will be well on the way to joining Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton in the impeached-but-not-removed club," Krikorian wrote.
Of course he wants impeachment. President Trump threatens Krikorian's livelihood. If Trump solves the problem, he will render Krikorian's little think tank obsolete.
That's the real threat Trump poses the National Review crowd. He's doing what they say they want done, and once he does their donors will have no reason to continue to write donation checks.
On the left, the fear is closing the border will shut down the FDVA -- Future Democratic Voters of America.
"President Donald Trump on Monday will propose a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children — a key concession to Democrats that he hopes will win their support for a massive border wall with Mexico," Politico reported.
"In a call with White House surrogates and Hill staffers Thursday afternoon, senior White House adviser Stephen Miller outlined the new framework, which also calls for dramatic restrictions on legal immigration as well as $25 billion for border security.
"Miller said the outline represented 'a compromise position that we believe… will get 60 votes in the Senate' and 'a framework that ultimately will lead to passage of a law.' Another senior administration official told Politico the White House hoped legislation fleshing out those principles would hit the Senate floor as early as the first week of February."
The dramatic restrictions on legal immigration include ending the "diversity lottery" that brings people in from countries best described as s***holes, as well as ending chain migration that allows one illegal alien who is legalized to bring in siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.
This is a compromise that Democrats won't accept because between the wall and the end of chain migration, Trump would greatly reduce the immigrant population, which now stands at 48 million people, a shade under 15% of the U.S. population. The wall will cost up to $25 billion.
"$25 billion as ransom for DREAMers with cuts to legal immigration and increases to deportations doesn’t pass the laugh test," Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez of Illinois said.
Jim Acosta of CNN tweeted, "Immigration advocates hammering WH proposal calling it 'dead on arrival' and a 'legislative burning cross'."
By casting this in terms of race, the message is clear: they don't like white people. Between Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright, don't we already have enough anti-white racists?
Trump won the battle on immigration before he entered the fray. His DACA proposal may pass and become law, and end the worst immigration abuses while reducing the number of immigrants we take in each year.
If Congress rejects his proposal, he still wins because President Obama's DACA order is illegal and unconstitutional -- and can be abandoned as promised in March.

The time limit will run (March 5) and then the 20 some odd states will continue the lawsuit in Brownsville, TX, the DOJ will not defend as Sessions has already warned, and it will be ruled illegal. The next offer will be much smaller and harsher and after the courts rule it was all illegal to begin with as everyone, including Obama, already knew.
ReplyDeleteIt has been ruled illegal at the federal appellate level and SCOTUS deadlocked on it 4-4 which leaves the lower court (IIRC the 5th circuit) ruling as the law.
DeleteThe "in your wetback face" part, that people are also missing, is that the pathway to citizenship (10-12 years) is contingent on the candidate being a good potential citizen, as judged from a decent list of no-no's. We can safely assume identity theft and SSN fraud is pretty close to the top of that list. The feds love that part because it's verifiable with the employer. Add in e-verify and bazinga. So, if they've been working with a SSN belonging to your dead aunt, viola. One infraction evah and it's ICE, ICE, Baby.

DeleteStrange, I don’t feel sold out. I always knew that Trump would have to give up something we wanted to get what we wanted the most. That is how negotiation works. Anyone who was paying attention has known all along that Trump would never get 100% of the things he talked about during the campaign. The world just doesn’t work that way.
ReplyDeleteTrump promised to make “good deals.” This would be a very good deal. DACA is gonna happen, sooner or later. If Hillary had won it would be done already, and the GOP would get NOTHING. Jeb or Marco would have signed off on DACA even faster than Hillary. The GOPe was hot-to-trot on amnesty but the base rebelled.
So Trump made the Democrats an offer they don’t dare take for fear of angering their base. If they take it they hand Trump a victory and it will take away immigration as a wedge issue. If the Democrats don’t take the deal Trump will say “I tried” and walk away, leaving them with nothing. And he will still keep demanding funding for the Wall. So if they take the deal Trump wins but if they don’t take the deal Trump wins.
Contrary to popular belief, the GOP base is not opposed to ALL immigration. They are opposed to ILLEGAL immigration, and they want merit-based immigration and an end to chain migration. Trump’s deal achieves all of that. The only immigration issue that polls positively for the Democrats is DACA. People feel sympathetic for kids that grew up here, and forcing all of them to leave is a political non-starter. But if they take Trump’s offer DACA is gone. Then what?
I will wait to pass final judgment until there is a final deal. Trump is accomplishing a helluva lot more of the things I care about than the typical GOP Failure Theater has done in the past 30 years.
Perhaps it's just because I was born & raised in CA, once the "Golden State-" and which is now the "Sh!t Brown State-" but I am opposed to ALL immigration.

ReplyDeleteTrump has always said that illegals must leave, but something must be done for the children. It was never an either or situation. Moreover, Trump said that he wanted the “good” illegals to stay and become lawful. He left it open exactly how that may be done.

ReplyDeleteWe don't need to end welfare for illegals, we need to end welfare PERIOD! If you are able bodied, you should be working. If you have a disability, there are probably a million jobs you can still do. I broke my neck five years ago. I have displacia, and can only handle about 20 lbs. I still work between 25 and 50 hrs per week depending on how hard I push my impediments. My banker for many years was in a wheel chair, a functional quad. Coulod only move his thumbs, no finger dexterity, but could move his arms. strange to watch writing. he worked harder just getting to the office than most people do in eight hours, and put in eight hours on top of that.
People are lazy. Most will only do what they absolutely must to get by.
I have confidence in President Trump. By the time he gets this train wreck moving, we will be needing people to fill the jobs. When that happens, we will need to have a plan in place to filter the tares from the wheat.
