Trump: "Americans are Dreamers, too!"

That was no State of the Union address tonight. That was the death of Democratic Party.

President Trump was positive, optimistic, and energized as he pointed out one success after another.
The stock market soars. Wages rise. Factories return. Taxes fall. Bonuses arrive.

The president delivered applause line after applause line, not through well-turned phrases written by some future seven-figure pundit, but by stating the basic facts.

One of his biggest applause lines came when he said they ended the worst part of the Obamacare: the mandate.

Throughout his address to Congress, Trump was buoyant.

Nancy Pelosi sulked. She looked like a mouse denied even a crumb.

She did not applaud Trump when he said, "We can achieve absolutely anything."

She stewed when he said, "Americans share the same home, the same heart, the same destiny, and the same American flag."

She sat stonily when he said, "We want every American to know the dignity of a hard day’s work.  We want every child to be safe in their home at night.  And we want every citizen to be proud of this land that we love."

Before the speech, true conservative columnist Andrew Malcolm wrote, "Can Pelosi and her doddering crew convince enough Americans that she and her party should retrieve the Speaker’s gavel without outlining specifically what, if anything, positive they propose to do differently? Other than, of course, not being Donald Trump."

(It's a good column. I recommend it.)

Trump's summation of the incredible year of 2017 answered the question. Republicans have delivered on their promise to bring peace and prosperity.

Democrats have nothing. They stand for equal pay (the law since 1963). Civil rights (1964). Gun control (1968). Abortion on demand (1973).

Why not call for the end to Prohibition (1933)?

Democrats have no new ideas. The party exists only to serve as a vehicle for collecting bribes and handing out favors.

Democrats lack compassion for anything other than political power.

"Entire row of Democrats refusing to stand for family whose two girls were murdered by MS-13," Katie Pavlich tweeted.

Trump offered new ideas. He will re-negotiate trade agreements. He said, "The era of economic surrender is over."

He spoke for the American people when he reminded Congress, "Americans are Dreamers too!"

Democrat lost their dream when he restored the word "dreamers" to its rightful place in America.

That set him up to sell the end of chain migration and the visa lottery. His audience was not Congress, but the American public.

The speech itself repeatedly used the invited guests to make his points. This required him to stay on script. This turned the night into a reality show. Us old-timers remember "Queen for a Day." It had that feeling.

North Korean defector Ji Seong-ho holding his crutches aloft as the chamber applauded him was an historic moment.

But Trump's address was more than stagecraft and optics. It was a reminder that policies affect real people in ways Congress never considers. Their donors and lobbyists leave out these inconvenient truths.

President Trump reminded Congress of the consequences of elitism.

When you let young refugees in from crime-ridden Guatemala out of compassion, you also sign the death warrants of innocent children in Long Island. Yes, not every refugee is MS-13, but that is not good enough. The government must make sure that none of them are MS-13, or it is no deal.

In the many, many guest mentions, Trump allowed the American people to tell Congress what the State of the Union is.

He was compassionate, on-target, and articulate.

People keep saying Trump needs to act presidential.

Tonight he was.

I do not expect any one of those critics to acknowledge the heights he reached tonight.

UPDATE on Wednesday: Silvio Canto Jr. will interview me on the radio at 3 PM Central.

Good news.

"Fake News Follies of 2017" will be available on Kindle on February 6.

Order it here.

The paperback edition will likely take orders this weekend.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at DonSurber@GMail.com for details. I am including a "director's cut." I'll email you back the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the "Fake News Follies of 2017."

Ben Garrison did the cover and I am so happy with it. I told him what the book was about, sent him a copy of the manuscript, and he came up with a perfect cover. I am so pleased.

  1. President Trump is not a stupid moron. He's utterly brilliant.

Yes Don, the Democratic party as presently constructed has no future as a major American political party. There simply aren't enough votes from bureaucrats, Hollywood celebrities, academics, and media members to win a national election.

At some point, the US federal government will have to be sent in to free California, New York state, and Illinois.

    2. Maybe there are not enough votes among "bureaucrats, Hollywood celebrities, academics, and media members," Ken, but there are millions upon millions of dead people who vote democrat. You cannot forget them until we have voter ID.

    3. Not only the dead, amigo. Vast numbers of La Raza have IDs now and no one is guarding the motor voter applications, comprende?

    4. Add NJ to that list, we have a grinning JA, Murphy as governor who wants to reverse even the few measly conservative policies that Christie was able to implement.

  4. Watching Pelosi, Durban and Schumer sulk was fantastic.

Now watching MSNBC to see how they are trying to tear the speech apart. They are failing miserably.

  5. How refreshing is it to have a president that puts America first? I know it's not the first time I've asked that question here, but it's still striking, and President Trump left no questions as to who he's always looking out for.

The democrats, on the other hand, are fine with America burning to the ground as long as they get to rule over the ashes (apologies to Lord Varys for stealing his lyrics). America and Americans doing poorly is an excuse for democrats to grow the government because you never let a good crisis go to waste.

And I watched about 5 minutes of the Kennedy rebuttal. First, awesome job, democrats - nothing like rolling out another trust-fund baby from the oligarchy who I'm sure has never worked a day in anything other than government. Yawn. And I hate when people put LOL after something because it's gay, and I'm typically certain they didn't laugh, but when JK III started trotting out the tired old class warfare bullshit about workers not making any gains under the new tax law I did laugh out loud. I also shut off the TV and said this moron is too effing stupid to listen to another minute of...

    1. Well Hoss, you missed the worst part of it then. He ended in true Jeb! fashion with a few sentences in Spanish. Hispandering at its worst. They are truly pathetic, and I can't wait until the law of unintended consequences catch up to the Dems and they lose the support of LEGAL immigrants and the Black vote too.

  6. As you may have noticed, I don't read the French Revolution like the typical conservative. In fact I think it pertinent to what has been happening here. Just finished reading another Marxist French professor who after doing a lot of research decided that the Classical Marxist thesis promoted for so long was incorrect. The book was written in the 1960's and doesn't get a lot of attention partly because it is tedious without being long. The Ancien Regime by Pierre Goubert.

This: "There is no evidence of conflict between a 'feudal' aristocracy and a capitalist bourgeoisie...the true rift lay not between the big bourgeoisie and the old nobility, both of them experienced in business, but between this composite elite and the rest of the nation, whom it basically despised."

Pretty much sums up the situation today, where those who were supposedly at each other's throats, Dems, establishment Repubs, Chamber of Commerce, etc., were actually in bed with each other sucking the average Joe dry.

Trump is our French Revolution. No guillotine. No trying to conquer neighbors to force our politics down their throats.

His opponents don't know how lucky they are he came along when he did.

  8. Did you see what he did? The speech was all aspiration and inspiration. No laundry list of policy proposals, he even threw some plums at the Democrats. And they sat on their hands. Sad.

    1. Trump has the Democrats where he wants them. The column is a typical overheated reaction to a Trump negotiating tool.
The writer wants activism to lobby him to stay true.
Pundits continue to treat Trump as a politician. He is not. You cannot read him like you would a Bush or a Reagan (who got rolled as a governor on abortion, which led to Roe-Wade).
Trump wants a wall and an end to illegal immigration. He listens to ICE and the Border Patrol.
Just like he listened to architects, engineers, and golf pros all this life.

    2. The Democrats’ and MSM’s main problem is that they haven’t yet worked out that they are now the reactionaries and we are the revolutionaries.

“Come the Revolution...” has got a whole new meaning, A meaning it hasn’t had since a band of rag-tag rebels taught an globalist elite that Americans like their kings uncrowned.

    3. Thanks. I had a feeling that if Trump had dropped a giveway that big in the Dems' lap the MSM would be crowing for all they were worth.

  15. The Dems and Progressives, having gone to the same schools together, KNEW they were smarter than the rest of Americans, and so severely
(S E V E R E L Y) mis-underestimated Trump. I'm sure they'll conclude "he got lucky", rather than "DAYAM!!!! He IS smarter than us." Because that would blow their self-esteem out of the water and it would then sink to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
