Sen. Joe Manchin almost applauded the president but Chuck Schumer won't let him.Omg @ComfortablySmug, you see Manchin??? pic.twitter.com/gP1LQgpzBQ— Charlie Cafazza (@Cafazza) January 31, 2018
Why do we West Virginians -- the Trumpiest people in the USA -- have Manchin as our senator?
Manchin showed at the State of the Union address last night whom he works for.
It's not us.
Remember the Teaberry Shuffle?
Manchin and a few other Democrats in Trump states did the Chuck Schumer Shuffle -- where you go to applaud the president, but you have to please your Master.
"You can see them all almost looking around, like 'We almost have to stand for this,' but the derangement is real. They have to do the opposite. They have been forced to take the opposite approach of everything that he does, everything that he says. So even things that are common sense solutions for the American people, they have to do the opposite. And you could see it. It was amazing to watch," Donald Trump Jr. said.
Manchin did not applaud:
- "We proudly stand for the national anthem."
- "Americans are dreamers too."
- "Let’s come together, set politics aside, and finally get the job done."
- "We all share the same home, the same heart, the same destiny, and the same great American flag."
- "In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center of the American life. Our motto is 'In God we trust.'"
- "Americans love their country. And they deserve a Government that shows them the same love and loyalty in return."
I know he does not represent West Virginia. Manchin refused to applaud a line members from all 50 states applauded: "We have ended the war on American Energy -- and we have ended the war on clean coal."
Amd while West Virginia is saturated with so much OxyContin amd now heroin that we have led the nation in overdose deaths for 16 years, Manchin sat silently when President Trump said, "My Administration is committed to fighting the drug epidemic and helping get treatment for those in need. The struggle will be long and difficult -- but, as Americans always do, we will prevail."
Manchin voted against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. His boss -- Chuck Schumer -- called the biggest tax cut in more than 30 years "crumbs."
Manchin would not even give West Virginia a few crumbs.
OK, we all get that Manchin is a Democrat and Trump a Republican.
But at some point you push aside party politics and do what is right.
Most West Virginians support Donald Trump.
Manchin does not. He supports Chuck Schumer.
Let Manchin run for senator in New York.

Good news.
"Fake News Follies of 2017" will be available on Kindle on February 6.
Order it here.
The paperback edition will likely take orders this weekend.
Autographed copies are available. Email me at DonSurber@GMail.com for details. I am including a "director's cut." I'll email you back the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the "Fake News Follies of 2017."
Ben Garrison did the cover and I am so happy with it. I told him what the book was about, sent him a copy of the manuscript, and he came up with a perfect cover. I am so pleased.
I'm sure Manchin would've stood up and applauded if someone had mentioned a constitutional right to ridiculously overcharge for an EpiPen.
ReplyDeleteLooked like a dog that had his leash jerked.
ReplyDeleteI live in California. I will trade you Kamala Harris for Joe Manchin, straight across. I'll even throw in a Moonbeam.
ReplyDeleteThat's like trading Colin Kaepernick for Tom Brady. No way, man.
DeleteLet's not get carried away, z. Maybe like trading for johnny manzeil.
DeleteYeah, Jim, you're right. After further review, I didn't think through that post very well. My bad.
DeleteAnd yet many conservatives and republicans are still hoping Manchin switches parties.
ReplyDeleteI say no thank you. We have enough losers that need to be weeded out on the republican side.
One of the Poweline bloggers calls Lindsay Graham “the Arlen Specter of the South”. Manchin would be “the Arlen Specter of Appalachia”.
I see he's up for reelection this year. I trust the GOP has someone to run against him.
ReplyDeleteWest Virginians chose poorly.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to find a Bernie Bro to primary Manchin. Get some GOP donors to fund the campaign. The Bernie Bro's entire campaign would consist of shouting EpiPen at Manchin. (Seriously, Dems really turn on Manchin when they learn he's connected to the EpiPen pricing scandal.) This would be stealing a page from the Dem playbook, where they get to pick their opponent by meddling in the other side's primary. See, e.g., Akin, Todd (MO). See also Angle, Sharron (NV).
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea.
DeleteI don't want to insult West Virginians, but if you vote in Manchin again you deserve to be the brunt of jokes.
ReplyDeleteWho do you guys think you are, New Jersey?
Hahahaha! Nice one, Evi. No, we Mountaineers got woke in a very good way. Morrisey's campaign is so simple, hell, I could run it. Just play that clip, over and over and over. Status Quo Joe is burnt casserole. Throw it (him) out. The smoke alarm's been beeping for five minutes now!
DeleteInterestingly enough, half the students at WVU seem to be from the Garden State. Morgantown has more New Jersey license plates than Hoboken has.
DeleteTrue, Big D, very true. My daughter said it was a clear subculture when she attended.
DeleteGo ahead and insult WV Evil. Four of WV's five congressional representatives are Rs.
Deletemanchin holds up a gun every six years and is reelected. What is with WV?
ReplyDeleteNow you hold on, SPP. He's only been in the Senate for 8 years or something. Remember, sir, this state is the Trumpiest in the country. Joe Munchin has no chance. I hope the Proggies dump a shit ton of money into this race. Down the drain.
Deletei hope so, thought he'd been there longer : )
Delete"Let Manchin run for senator in New York."
ReplyDeleteSays it all, says it perfectly.
JimNorCal
I have watched Manchin for a couple of yrs now. He is the most two faced senator we have. At least Chuckie let's you know where he stands. But Manchin he tells you he stands with you and then he votes with Chuckie. Sorry Joe, times up the mask is off, move on, I suggest NYC or DC you will fit in much better with the hypocrites than the hard working coal miners.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the haze we finally clear...Joe set back and watch mines close and those God awful pills infect so many...He should be ashamed of himself...throw the bum out...
ReplyDeleteFour of WV's five congressional reps are Rs and the mines still closed and the pill mills continue to crank. Throw all five out.
DeleteSen Joe, how's it feel to have a target painted on yr back?

Pence Slams Manchin Over Votes on Tax Reform, Health Care
I was in WV a few months ago & I spoke to the WV Chamber of Commerce. @Sen_JoeManchin was there – & I looked him in the eye and I told him, “Joe, the people of the Mountain State are counting on you,” so let’s “get this tax cut done together.” But #JoeVotedNo.
— Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) January 31, 2018
Joe Manchin voted NO to letting hard working families keep more of their hard-earned money. Joe voted NO on TAX CUTS for job creators. #JoeVotedNo
— Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) January 31, 2018
When the time came to repeal & replace the disaster of Obamacare, Joe voted NO. When we empowered West Virginia to defund Planned Parenthood, Joe voted NO. And when it comes to securing our Southern border, Joe said, “I’m not voting for the wall, either.” #JoeVotedNo
— Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) January 31, 2018
.@Sen_JoeManchin is going to keep voting against West Virginia & I think Chuck Schumer & Nancy Pelosi are pretty happy w/ the way he votes. But WV needs to let him know that they EXPECT BETTER & they need to let Joe know that WEST VIRGINIA DESERVES BETTER. #JoeVotedNo
— Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) January 31, 2018
When it came time to vote on sweeping tax cuts that helped West Virginians keep more of their money & made it possible for companies like Worldwide Equipment to invest more in their workers, @SenCapito voted YES & #JoeVotedNo
