Playboy learns the hard way not to mess with Trump

Playboy heir Cooper Hefner decided to be one of the cool kids this summer, and dumped on Trump.

The heir may regret that error of airing a complaint about President Trump.

Let me explain.

After his father Hugh died, Cooper Hefner tweeted that he was embarrassed that Trump appeared on the cover of the March 1990 edition of Playboy, tweeting, "Why am I embarrassed about this cover? Because we promote a philosophy that encourages ALL individuals to choose the life they want to live."

Trump appeared on the cover 18 months before Cooper was born. At the time, he was nine months away from being a gleam in his father's eye.

He may as well have said he was embarrassed by slavery or World War II because he had as much to do with them as he did the Playboy cover.

Maybe daddy had second thoughts 25 years later. Who knows?

From Mashable:
Cooper's dad reportedly had something of a falling out with Trump after the latter secured the Republican nomination for the presidency, and though it's not clear why, it may have something to do with Trump courting evangelicals and the Christian right on his way to the White House. Hefner, after all, founded Playboy in part as a counterweight to the United States's Christian conservatism. As a longtime vocal defender of LGBT rights, he probably also didn't enjoy Trump's selection for vice president, Mike Pence. Pence once tried to link LGBT couples to "societal collapse."
Trump, to no one's great surprise, is apparently very proud to have graced the magazine's cover. Last year he told The Washington Post, “I was one of the few men in the history of Playboy to be on the cover."
Trump was right. That actually is quite an achievement.

Trump grew up wanting the Playboy style.

He has since outgrown it.

Lots of men have.

Cooper Hefner, 26, decided to get in a feud with The Donald -- one-sided as it was.

Not a bright idea.

Playboy as a magazine is on its last legs as a new year begins.

From the Daily Mail:
Playboy may close down its print magazine in favor of forming profitable partnerships with nightclubs and casinos just months after founder Hugh Hefner's death.
"We want to focus on what we call the World of Playboy," Ben Kohn, a managing partner at private-equity firm Rizvi Traverse, Playboy's controlling shareholder, told the Wall Street Journal.
Kohn went on to say that Playboy is "so much larger than a small, legacy print publication."
Thanks to Cooper Hefner, Playboy just joined the Trump Effect Club of people and entities who fought The Donald, and Trump Won.

The Trumpers had a whale of a good time, waving their signs, jeering at the media, beating up protesters, chanting ‘Lock her up’ — we elitists just stood and clapped. 1. Playboy Clubs coming back? Didn't know they went away; haven't lived in a city that had one.

  2. "Hefner, after all, founded Playboy in part as a counterweight to the United States's Christian conservatism."

Hefner's great goal in life was to be a bit too big for his britches.

  3. I guess Hefner has the same Virtue Signaling Gene as the Murdoch Scions. Unlike his father who was a success because he didn't care what anyone said about him, he will always be just Daddy's Girl.

  4. New wanted 'the Playboy lifestyle."
My old boss ha a poster in his office, showing a leggy blonde next to a Ferrari.
with the caption: "In the long run, the car is less expensive." TG

  5. Is the kid gay or transgender? Or just a testosterone-deficient snowflake?

He certainly comes across as a sniffy little turd with that tweet.

  6. The magazine has been a money-losing proposition for many years. Playboy makes its money by selling its brand and the right to use its bunny icon on luxury products, mostly overseas. (Playboy perfumes are very big in Japan and China.)

  7. Compare the son's whiny social justice posturing with Playboy's vintage advertising campaign from the late 60s and 70s:

    Classic stuff!

  8. Cooper sells naked women for money. He's nothing but a pimp. He can get off his moral high horse.

  9. Wonder why Trump's daughter went to Coop's New Year's Eve party?

  10. So they are going to market a brand of something that doesn't exist anymore? Marketing off a defunct magazine is really pathetic for a 25 year old even if he is a loser. Next they will be selling Time/Life, er, Playboy golden oldie music collections at 3 AM.

  11. Nice work on this Don.

  12. Playboy is a 20th century relic, but it had delusions of grandeur even in its heyday. Hef Sr. did everything in his power to pretend his magazine wasn't porn, but as soon as porn was available for free on the internet, Playboy withered up and blew away. You have to know your audience.

  13. The girl on the Playboy cover with Trump is in prison in Australia for smuggling drugs.

  14. One thing you can say however, is that unlike Clinton's, none of Trump's detractors have died mysteriously.

  15. Playboy was popular because of hot, naked women. Not only is this genius trashing Trump but I have read the magazine recently featured a tranny and a plus size woman. No one ever bought Playboy for the articles, let alone a tranny or plus size woman.

  16. Is Bannon next on the list?

  17. Obviously, you just used your notes for your next book, "The Trump Curse", as your column.

Follow-up book: "Trump Curses You" with his greatest insults and the aftermath to their career
