From USA Today: "Is this the start of World War III? That's what people are worried about."
Sarandon: Hillary would have started another war.
Seven months later, all is calm on the Syrian front. A coalition led by Arab foot soldiers has mopped up the Islamic State, and while Assad is still in power, he's not coloring outside his lines.
Trump inherited a mess from Obama and dealt with it deftly and diplomatically.
His 59 cruise missiles signaled three things. 1. He was calling Assad's bluff. 2. He was backing the Saudis in Syria. 3. He was warning Xi to take care of North Korea -- or Trump would.
Contrast and compare to the adolescent Obama.
From Glenn Reynolds in 2015:
Over the weekend, Washington Post editorial page editor Fred Hiatt was unsparing in his criticism of President Obama’s Syria policy. According to Hiatt, Obama has “presided over a humanitarian and cultural disaster of epochal proportions” and, worse, has done so while telling Americans that it’s no big deal.
Hiatt is certainly correct about the humanitarian and cultural disaster, and also about Obama’s do-nothing approach. He notes, “On those rare occasions when political pressure or the horrors of Syrian suffering threatened to overwhelm any excuse for inaction, he promised action, in statements or White House leaks: training for the opposition, a safe zone on the Turkish border. Once public attention moved on, the plans were abandoned or scaled back to meaningless proportions (training 50 soldiers per year, no action on the Turkish border).”
Obama initially called for the removal of Syrian President Bashar Assad, only to back down in the face of opposition from Vladimir Putin. Since then, the United States has postured a bit, but done nothing of consequence. The signal to our enemies: It’s safe to ignore us. The signal to our friends: It’s foolish to rely on us.I would advise friends to remember that the next time a Democrat is president.
Oh and in his next paragraph, Reynolds wrote:
Now, as the war in Syria has expanded — with the U.S. arming and supporting various groups that have shown a disturbing tendency to take our guns and then switch sides — refugees are flooding Europe. It is, as Ron Radosh correctly states, Barack Obama’s refugee problem. So not only did Obama the Overrated screw up Arabia with his Arab Spring, but his failure spawned the first Muslim invasion of Europe in 400 years.
Hillary would have been worse.
From the Guardian:
Did Susan Sarandon really say that Hillary was more dangerous than Trump?
“Not exactly, but I don’t mind that quote,” she says. “I did think she was very, very dangerous. We would still be fracking, we would be at war [if she was president]. It wouldn’t be much smoother. Look what happened under Obama that we didn’t notice.”We aren't at war for one reason: Trump does not care about his job approval today.
Hillary would care.
She pushed to bomb Libya because it was popular at the time. Sarah Palin was pushing it. But we foolishly destabilized a country that is now a lawless land of warring militias.
How many damned Afghanistans do Democrats want?
In Syria, the United States was in a support role. The House of Saud has taken the lead -- with Trump's blessing. He is all for Arabs running Arabia.
From Agence France Press:
Saudi Arabia's crown prince vowed to "pursue terrorists until they are wiped from the face of the earth" as officials from 40 Muslim countries gathered Sunday in the first meeting of an Islamic counter-terrorism alliance.
"In past years, terrorism has been functioning in all of our countries... with no coordination" among national authorities, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also Saudi defence minister, said in his keynote address to the gathering in Riyadh.
"This ends today, with this alliance."The prince has kept the president informed all along, going back to their meeting at the White House in March, and likely much earlier.
Meanwhile, the press in America is giving their countrymen the latest updates on piegate.
If ignorance is bliss, we have the most content press in the world.

Please enjoy my two books about the press and how it missed the rise of Donald Trump.
The first was "Trump the Press," which covered his nomination.
The second was "Trump the Establishment," which covered his election.

Well said, Don. Syria is going to be a non-problem just as soon as the Israelis wipe the Iranians out in that country, as they have promised to do.
ReplyDeleteUnlike the Legacy Media, Don keeps us abreast of the Real News.
ReplyDeleteI hate her politics, but I always enjoy pix of Susan Sarandon, darn it!
ReplyDelete---Fred
That's because her photos are silent.
DeleteWell that does it right there -- all these years insisting I never would have a drink with Susan Sarandon. You helped change my mind, Don.
ReplyDeleteI hate to disagree, but I must give the Devil his due: "Obama the Overrated [did] screw up Arabia with his Arab Spring, but his [success] spawned the first Muslim invasion of Europe in 400 years [which he intended.]"
ReplyDeleteObama wanted to destabilize the Middle East and encourage muslims to go a-jihading. That's why he gave them so many weapons and so much money. They took the money, the weapons, and now they're everywhere, aren't they? Mission accomplished!
That also accomplished another of Obama's aims: to ruin the USA as much as he possibly could. I'm afraid he was far more successful than we give him credit for, and we'll be suffering from his success for a long, long time.
Now we have close to a civil war here, race relations are so bad; we have hostile enclaves all over our nation, where Sharia Law is practiced and actual Americans fear to tread; some of those hostiles are being elected into our own government, to undermine us from within. Aliens were encouraged to enter the country, and they came in droves.
Also, I don't see Assad as a prime mover in Syria, only as a powerful piece on the chessboard. The players are Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia- and us, Western Civ with President Trump leading. Thank God for President Trump!
Clear-thinking as she is, you really have to admire Susan's prefrontal cortex.
ReplyDelete"Once public attention moved on, the plans were abandoned"
ReplyDeleteI talked about this for years.
O's faux "air campaign" against ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Assad's forces. What a joke. Every time any of the above made the news, Obama would go all in for a bombing campaign. Then, in a couple days, the media would move on and the air campaign, which never amounted to anything anyway, would be suspended again.
The sole purpose of it was to please the US media. To pretend he was doing something when, really, he absolutely was not.
"How many damned Afghanistans do Democrats want?"
ReplyDeleteEver see the movie "Wag The Dog"?
