China to invest $84 billion in West Virginia

The coastal elites wrote West Virginia off. They called us fools for voting for President Trump. Rubes. Marks. The words from Obama -- "those jobs aren't coming back" -- ring in my ears.

Then again, he also thought he dropped the mic on The Donald when he said "at least I will go down in history as a president."

Poca, West Virginia

Well, Mister O not only is Donald Trump president but those jobs are coming back.

President Trump is bringing them back.

All the way from China.

Or at least trying to.

From WSAZ:
China Energy Investment Corporation Limited has signed an agreement with the West Virginia Dept. of Commerce on an $83.7 billion plan to invest in shale gas development and chemical manufacturing projects in West Virginia.
The Memoradum of Understanding was signed Thursday in Beijing, witnessed by President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
West Virginia Secretary of Commerce H. Wood Thrasher and China Energy President Ling Wen signed the MOU.
"This is a great day for the state of West Virginia," Gov. Jim Justice said. "I’ve been saying for the last couple months that the tides are turning in West Virginia and this is proof. Today is another sign as we joined with my good friend President Trump to announce the largest investment in our state’s history."
The investment is larger than the state's annual economic output.

We just passed a road bond of $3.2 billion.

This is 25 times larger than the road bond.

The $84 billion (rounding up) will be spent over 20 years. So that is larger than a road bond a year.

That is an investment of $46,500 per person in the state.

And it brings back a chemical industry that died with Bhopal in 1984.

Union Carbide headed an industry that employed 15,000 people in the Kanawha Valley (Charleston area). We called it the Chemical Valley. Then Bhopal came, Carbide folded, and all the other chemical companies closed, or reduced production.

There are maybe 1,000 chemical jobs left.

That was our post-coal economy.

But now it is coming back.

We think.

We hope.

The agreement is after all non-binding. And we had a group in Brazil promise us the same thing (on a much smaller scale) a few years back.

But what did Hillary offer us? Job retraining to turn coal miners into computer programmers -- as if coal mining skills are worthless.

From Bloomberg:
“Expanding Appalachia’s energy infrastructure, including developing a regional storage hub and market for natural gas liquids, will have a transformative effect on our economy, our security and our future,” U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, a West Virginia Republican, said in the statement.
China Energy Investment was formed from the combination of Shenhua Group Corp., the nation’s largest coal miner, and China Guodian Corp., one of its top-five power generators.
Odd, we write off coal in America while it booms in China.

The key to the deal are Trump and fracking. West Virginia has plenty of natural gas in the Marcellus Shale formation to supply a plastics and chemical industry.

West Virginia has a lot to offer the world. We are good people, and we deserve a chance. That is all we ask.

Donald Trump knows that. Hillary didn't. Thankfully, enough people in 29 other states saw what we saw, and elected him, not her.

  1. Don't forget the salt industry. Besides being one of the earliest industries in the area, brine wells were a big source of chlorine, a major element which is used in the chemical industry. The Kanawha Valley is sitting on major salt reserves from an ancient sea. There are still a few artisanal salt outfits. Bottom line, though: We are winning with President Trump. Hillary would have doubled down on the status quo and concentrated on pursuing a Leftist agenda and enriching herself. - Elric

    1. Yum. I love salt. Would not eat a meal without it. Please pass the salt!

  2. Making America Great Again, one step at a time.

  3. Now if only West Virginia would boot Manchin out of office and elect a Republican senator. That would balance out the Stupid Party stabbing Roy Moore in the back in Alabama and getting a Dimocrat elected there. - GOC

  4. Just like Sarah Palin said, it all will be hopey changey promised by Russian's puppet aka Dotard trump. If you all believe what trumpy and China, go head celebrate it, but up until you get the share (of the 84 Billion), dont spend $$$ that you dont own yet.

  5. Steam from the cooling it!
