Oh yes, Obama was stealth in changing the regulations to undo welfare reform without Congress.
Trump -- a man who was smart enough to turn a few million into a $10 billion empire -- will rebuild it without Congress.
And Congress will let him because it is a body of cowards too afraid to do anything lest they lose their jobs.

Trump administration officials are mulling an executive order that would instruct federal agencies to review low-income assistance programs, part of a coming effort to make sweeping changes to the country’s welfare system.
The White House began circulating a draft order to federal agencies for comment last week, according to two administration officials, who were granted anonymity to discuss the internal deliberations.
One of the officials said the draft order calls on agencies to review existing regulations and propose new rules that conform to a set of broad welfare principles, including tighter work requirements that encourage recipients to shift back into the labor force.
The order also calls for streamlining or eliminating duplicative services and establishing metrics for holding agencies accountable for program performance. It also encourages greater cooperation with state and local governments.
The initiative comes as President Donald Trump shifts attention to his ambitious tax reform initiative in the wake of his failed effort to repeal Obamacare. Administration backers of the welfare executive order hope he signs it before Thanksgiving, one of the officials said.This is very preliminary. We shall see how it goes.
But President Trump has figured something out. He thought Tom Price and Republican leaders had a plan to replace and repeal Obamacare.
They did not.
That is why he did not hesitate to cashier Dr. Price over his lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous travels. Price became a swamp critter. Sad.
Getting Congress to change the law is like getting a baby to change his diaper.
President Trump, though, is using the powers of the president to get things done that need to be done. He does not have time to play congressional games.
Neither do we.

The $20 million food stamp fraud you mentioned yesterday was barely a drop in the proverbial bucket. Likewise with welfare ("means-tested benefits"), MediCaid, and MediCare. Fraud is rampant. Remove means-tested and retstore work requirements. There are some folks who truly need help, but paying people who can work (welfare, food stamps, housing, medical care, cell phones, etc.) adds up quickly and is bamkrupting the country. The Great Society is a failed experiment. This is one reason I voted for President Trump. - Elric
ReplyDeleteThe original intent of welfare was to give people a safety net until they can get on their feet. Permanent welfare was only supposed to be for people that were disabled and/or mentally unable to work.
DeleteIn Canada, a single woman with 2 children gets a package of after-tax benefits that amounts to $35k a year. The problem there is that most of those woman do not have enough skills to find a job for that amount. So getting welfare is their job. I do not know the facts of how much Americans get, but I do know that acquiring multiple benefits is a way of life for many American's.
To most people, it's better to stay home and live on benefits, then to get an additional 20% more money which will only be eaten up by expenses to get to work and dress for it. The best scenario for many is to start by getting a base of government benefits to live off of, then find a cash-only / work-off-the-books way of netting additional money. It is a way of life in America - and not just in the inner city. Well over 50% of households in America have been getting some government benefits since the Obama administration took hold. And keep in mind that 50% of American's pay no tax at all, and an additional amount of American's hide their incomes. It is going to be very hard to turn this around.
