Home from Washington this month, Congressman Kelly sees an America the media does not see.

"Back home, people aren't mad at the president. They're mad at the Republican Party for not working with the president to try and get things done," said Rep. Mike Kelly (R., Pa.), who said he hears complaints while doing errands at Wal-Mart in a district that Mr. Trump handily won.
How Republican lawmakers respond to such frustration -- and whether they move past the health defeat or get swept back into that fight -- will determine whether the GOP-led Congress returns as a unified force. August is the longest recess of the year, and constituents can both energize and draw energy from lawmakers who appear at town halls and other meetings.
Many Republicans are worried that an inability to deliver major legislative accomplishments would result in significant GOP losses in midterm congressional elections. Although Republicans have a favorable map in 2018 that should bolster their chances of holding their Senate majority, GOP strategists see a greater risk of losing control of the House.The story went on about polls and the like which show gloom and doom for Republicans hanging on to the House.
Certainly the Senate is unhelpful.
And what is Paul Ryan's incentive to stay on as speaker? He could make five to ten times as much money as a lobbyist. He's never going back to Wisconsin. He is a creature of the swamp. He has lived in Janesville only one year since turning 18, and that was to run for Congress the first time. College in Ohio followed by living in Washington.
Eric Cantor lost a primary to David Brat. Cantor was rewarded with a nice lobbying job.
'Tis their nature. Washington has become a magnet for men of weak will and poor character.

DeleteIt seems to me that the Republicans prefer to be backbenchers, bewailing that they are the minority party and appealing for more funds and votes while simultaneously accepting "campaign contributions" (bribes) from anyone wanting access to their ear or their votes. I mean, what is so difficult about following through on a promise to repeal Obamacare? Ms. Capito will never receive another of my votes. - Elric

DeleteDo anyone of you keep up with current events? The House Rs PASSED A BILL to repeal and replace Obamacare. Everyone, especially Trump and Surber, were doing the jig and popping champaign when this occurred. Of course, about two weeks later, Trump went total about face said the House repeal and replace bill was "mean" and told the Senate Rs to do better.

DeleteMcCain alone kept Obama care. He had no reason to do what he did except personal animosity. The other two R had state issues and made political decisions. He did not but at least he was true to his character as a selfish "maverick" that got him elected so many times by his beloved conservative base. There is not and never has been a Senator who put his country's interest over that of his state or himself. They are fifty little kings and so the Senate was designed. People forget or never knew or don' care or don' understand or don' give a RA that Obama and His henchman Reed were legally elected dictators elevated to power by mobs storming the Bastille.
ReplyDeleteTrump is a constitutional president, something absent for eight year to the delight of many, mostly the left but not a few R too. Look at the line winding down the block and around the bend waving cash by the fist that was awaiting the carriage carrying Queen HC, in vain. It was not just the pussy hatted women of Venice who needed cuddling then.
Frankly I wish DT had some dictatorial mojo. I wouldn't mind. That he does not however says nothing about the virtue of his enemies. We should hope instead that he somehow becomes immortal and never leaves office, given what is eagerly awaiting to replace him, even if he never has a law passed named for him.

The state issue claim is invalid. Those Senators said they would repeal Obamacare, and they didn't, and therefore they not only are liars, but ethically ineligible to be in Congress.
DeleteThe Republicans would be totally ok with the Democrats regaining control. They could go back to being the faux opposition party, still keep the perks of office, and not have the responsibility of actually governing.

Reagan, while having government experience and being eloquent (As Biden stated about Obama, he spoke well), Reagan was derided and ridiculed by the GOP in power. HW Bushed coined the term "Voodoo Economics" and ran away from Reagan's vision when he became President.

Talk to the Freedom from Responsibility Caucus AKA The Gang of 35 AKA The Principled Ones. The vast majority of the Republican Caucus wants to work with The President, these guys want to work with the Dhimmicrats because they are purer than the RINOs and GOPe.

President Bill Clinton, closed the naval base last in 1993. That resulted in the loss to Long Beach, California of 17,500 military and civilian jobs. The economic impact of the of loss was $52.5 million and drove the California economy into the tank. It has never recovered.

Congress doesn’t have a clue how to shape a health care system that works.
The Democrats let greedy drug companies and hospital corporations write Obamacare for their own optimum profit, and included LOTS of room for graft and kickbacks and all sorts of pork.
Not a care in the world was given to the working class, to excellent reliable delivery of services, or even to the furtherance of human life. Congress doesn’t care about high premiums and sky high deductibles or no health insurance at all – people paying fines in order NOT to have Obamacare.
Illegals and new immigrants are covered, of course, along with other freebies, which are a subsidy for big corporations, at taxpayer expense.
Obamacare is all about $$$ for the health industry and politicians and their donors, and about total control of the American population.
Obamacare is a crime – just one more crime committed by Obama’s criminal regime and DC’s criminal elected officials in their continued thievery and hoax perpetrated upon voters and citizens of the USA.
