No to transgendered soldiers

My feeling about the military is that if you are willing to take a bullet for our country and most important, able to put a bullet in our enemies, thank you. I don't care if you sashay (and we had a sergeant who did -- and he had a Silver Star from Vietnam).

However, I also believe that the military, not a politician, should make those decisions.

President Trump agrees, which is why there will be no transgendered soldiers for now.

In a series of tweets, Trump explained his position.

Social Justice Warriors went ape, as expected. I doubt many of them care about the military or the transgendered.

And Republicans who do care about the military will disagree as well. I respect their argument that everyone who wants to serve should.

But should people with Down Syndrome?

Paraplegics?

Short people?

We should have enough able-bodied males to protect us. That is not a knock on women soldiers, whom I support. Nor is it a knock on wounded soldiers who want to stay in service.

But it is a statement that the military should have a say over who goes in.

In World War II, Woody Williams of West Virginia was turned down twice by the Marines. He tried a third time, and was accepted. At Iwo Jima on the day they raised the flag on Mount Suribachi, Corporal Williams's service was so exemplary that he later received the Medal of Honor.

I am of mixed emotion, but emotions are secondary to logic.

The generals decided. If we trust them on the battlefield, let us trust them in garrison as well.

  1. I'm sure some trans g have already died for their country and even now serve on tis military. Unfortunately the Democrats have made them disruptive political tools for their own ends. Helping the country is not one of them. Trump did the right thing.

    1. I think you nailed the issue -- that it's become an issue. The 'Don't ask, don't tell,' said it's none of our business and don't make it our business. Just as Mr Surber is dead on saying anyone who wants to serve and can qualify should have the opportunity, it's also dead on that the military services shouldn't be all about social issues and differences over the inclusive 'we few, we happy few, we band of brothers' idea.

  2. Oops! There goes that free sex change operation so many of them joined to get. It's an anathema to me that veterans cannot receive the lifesaving care they need promptly, but these confused individuals get priority voluntary sex change operations.

It's not the function of the military to serve as a social crucible to the problems in society - it is designed for a function - that which social experimentation impedes.

And outside the medical costs, there are the additional morale and training costs. Trump laid it at the feet of expense.

And those who put a political label on it need to explain why it's okay to abort babies because people cannot afford them, but not okay to restrict military roles because the government cannot afford it.

    1. Standing O from Hedgesville for that post!

  3. Good camaraderie and morale are essential for fighting units. "Don't ask, don't tell" seemed to work fairly well but the sexes should not be intermingled and there should be no special considerations, social or medical. - Elric

  4. We'll know the country has turned the corner when they start phasing out women and homosexuals.

  5. Yes, there' quite a bit vis-a-vis the medical costs and disruption. Not just the switcharoo operation, but the prior counseling, drug stuff, and the fact that the "transgendered" will be nondeployable and therefore take up a slot where an able-bodied Soldier could be serving.
Plus, if HIV/AIDS is an example, they'll wind up getting medically retired and we'll pay their pensions and medical expenses forever.

  6. If they're not full post-op transgendered then the military doesn't need them or their medical BS. Don't ask don't tell was the perfect solution, but the in your face gay lobby couldn't leave well enough alone. Transgenders are .03% of the population, I'm unable to understand why they should be given special treatment or held out as some kind of societal hero. But mostly I'm sick and tired of the aggressive SJW agenda which you, Don Surber, seem to be buying into in this particular case.

I wonder how women on ships feel about a non-post op trans with no tits and a dick shaving and showering with them? Because that's what they want to force on the Navy, at least.

  7. Hopefully Trump will now can the Great Green Fleet, which is one of the nuttiest of the Navy's initiatives under Obama.

  8. I notice that neither you, Don, nor any of your commenters (so far) have said that transgenderism is a fake. NOBODY and I mean Nobody, can change their sex. Sex determination. A baby's genetic sex is determined at the time of conception. When the baby is conceived, a chromosome from the sperm cell, either X or Y, fuses with the X chromosome in the egg cell, determining whether the baby will be genetically female (XX) or male (XY). The chromosomes are in each cell of the body. I think some people think that they are only in the genitals. There are some very minute number of people with exceptions to the above but they are not the people undergoing castration. Please stop buying into this farce, you are condemning many little children to a life of hell and disfigurement. CM

    1. I will add something more to this discussion which is not discussed. As a woman, I am insulted that mentally sick men think they can be women by chopping off their genitals and taking hormones. This is the sickest version of what a woman is. When I was young, there was a lot of debate at that time, promoting the idea that a woman was just a second rate man without a penis. The idea was vehemently denied by feminists. Now the idea has come back with a vengeance, disguised as transgenderism, and promoted by this generation of feminists. CM

  9. I have no problem with gays in the military. But Trannys are whack. No way.

  10. Don, you have not addressed that a post op tranny needs daily doses of hormones as well as who knows what other maintenance to keep him in his unnatural, man-made state. Do these meds and helps get delivered to the front lines? At whose expense?

  11. Also, a man taking estrogen will have the continual disadvantage of having a lower aerobic capacity and weaker muscles as a direct result. Is this what the military does not? Deliberately make its soldiers weaker? On what planet does this make sense.

I can not understand you having mixed emotions on this issue. It is CRYSTAL CLEAR.

  12. Knew a veteran bomb-aimer who survived the Combined Bomber Offensive over the Third Reich. They had to lie down flat to aim, and after one of their buds took anti-aircraft fragments where no man wants to ever take 'em, a bunch of them went out and obtained pairs of heavy-duty hubcaps to wear fire and aft as a shield.

  14. 1. There is enormous expense associated with transgender nonsense.
    2. There is no compelling reason to recruit or accept the mentally ill, which is what 99% of transgenders represent. You may as well recruit from the homeless population.
    3. The purpose of the military is to be ready and able to kill people and break things when the need arises, not to cater to sexual deviants and social justice warriors.

    1. Congratulations for having the most ignorant post of the day - and trust me you have a lot of competition.
      1. Most recent data states that one-tenth of 1 percent of US military budget goes to "transgender" nonsense. I read a report that said the US military spends more on Viagra than transgender expenses.
      2. Please cite credible medical sources that backs this assertion.
      3. A Navy Seal Team 6 member who was on the Bin Laden raid is transgender.
Get off your SJW horse (neo-con style) for a moment and look at the big picture. Trump announces a major policy by Twitter, with no input from the Pentagon/military; no discussion with Congress and cites erroneous statistics as his reasons. That's plain scary for this country.

      Delete
    2. You're a lying sack of ___ who only knows how to repeat talking points. The transgender FORMER SEAL did NOT serve -- he was male when he was a SEAL -- he wants to dress up as a woman & cut his penis off, God bless, but there was NO "transgender SEAL"
Also, Trump consulted with his Generals who did not want to implement the policy Obama put in June 2016 that was to start now -- so this is actually reversing NOTHING -- they were banned before, and Obama's order was intentionally designed for him to get the SJW credit by idiots like you without actually having to be implemented -- there was all this "sensitivity training" first -- that's ALL that has happened in the last year -- training, not actually ENLISTING trans people.
Finally, trans people have quadruple the suicide rate, especially post op. (Google that yourself, I'm not your mommy) That proves they are mentally unstable. The Army wouldn't let in a guy who took steroids to build muscles, they shouldn't let in a guy taking hormones to appear more feminine. You don't care about trans people and you don't care about the safety and effectiveness of the US military. SO frankly, you can GFY.

    3. Good try Lola. Not one single general has said he was consulted by Trump about this. He was even rebuffed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff today. Try Google News (or your mommy for verification). Again, you cite no credible source and completely forget the transgender issue here.
Trump makes a major policy by - Twitter no less - and no one was consulted about it. That's scary. That's the idiot running this country.

  15. Don, you are wrong to be mixed on this. Actual trans and/or intersect people are extremely rare, but even if you count the lost souls who are jumping on the "trans bandwagon" now that it's become fashionable, is still less than 1 % and these people have way bigger issues than "wanting to serve their country." The hormones they take isn't just a pill -- it is heavy duty. The military already doesn't take drug addicts or guys on steroids to body build, there is no reason for them to take someone on hormone therapy and put them in a combat situation -- that is dangerous not only to themselves but to the others around them.
Additionally, trans people have a scary suicide/attempted suicide rate -- they can't handle normal life -- they sure as hell can't handle combat. Anyone who actually cares about trans people would not be arguing to allow them into the military.
