NYT discovers Republicans aren't wimps

The New York Times expected Republicans to fold like chairs on the Second Amendment after a Democratic Party activist tried to hunt them down at a ballpark on Wednesday. The Democrat shot and severely wounded Republican House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana.

Nope. This is the Party of Trump. We hit back twice as hard.

Bu-bu-but blubbered the Times:
Past shootings have brought calls for more gun control, especially for restrictions on the kind of rifle used in Wednesday’s attack. But the ardent supporters of gun rights who came under fire this time were not about to change their views.
As Representative Steve Scalise, the third-ranking House Republican, had surgery for a gunshot wound to the hip, his colleagues complained that Washington’s restrictive gun laws had barred him and other lawmakers who live in the capital from bringing weapons to the baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.
“Had there not been a member of House leadership present, there would have been no police present, and it would have become the largest act of political terrorism in years, if not ever,” Representative Tom Garrett of Virginia said, pointing to legislation he has introduced to make it easier for people to carry a gun in Washington. That bill “would allow the most law-abiding among us to defend themselves,” he said.
The New York Times was aghast that Republicans are not pulling a Jim Brady by calling for more gun control, when we already keep criminals and the mentally ill from buying guns.
“The problem is that nobody looks for a middle ground,” said Representative Steve Cohen, Democrat of Tennessee.
Mr. Cohen said part of the difficulty was that many Republicans in right-leaning districts are more afraid of conservative primary challengers than of Democrats in general elections. And few interest groups have as much clout among Republican primary voters as the N.R.A.
“They have an N.R.A. rating they want to keep,” he said.
Nope.

They have lives they want to keep.

Their own.

Hate the media? Love the Trump?
Read the best two books on the subject.

On November 8, 2016, the American people said, "Trump the Establishment!"

Now read the book that explains how and why the press missed this historic election.

It is available on Kindle, and in paperback.

And then read the original, "Trump the Press," which chronicled and mocked how the media missed Trump's nomination.

It is available on Kindle, and in paperback

Autographed copies of both books are available by writing me at DonSurber@GMail.com

  1. Well, open carry with body armor is the best way to go. Here's the thing.....the marxist agitators will all have body armor. Situational awareness is the order of the day. Look at how Israel deals with their problems. This is a growing insurgency, and will have to be dealt with like that. Open Sedition is already well underway.

    2. California is a blue state chock full of leftards, DIEversity sheep, assorted nuts and their beloved "poor migrant" parasites who feed off them.

Californians want to die at the hands of their parasites. Why should I care if their parasitical government wants to ensure its citizens are defenseless?

  2. Dems: Too wrapped up in their ideology to even begin to consider why someone could possibly disagree with them.

  3. Republicans are less likely to restrict liberty in fraidy-cat, knee-jerk reaction to adverse events.

  4. Congress should pass laws that destroy DC's restrictive gun laws and regulations. I wonder whay that is not done. Sometimes I feel that the politicians want issues to be open out there, not closed.

    1. Congress should cede DC back to Maryland. It wants to be a city-state. and that wasn't the plan. The Alexandria part of DC was already ceded back to Virginia.

  5. A bill in the House and Senate to allow reciprocity across the US for CCW permits even if issued to non residents needs to be passed. Then everyone has equal self protection rights as per the 9th and 2nd Amendments.

  7. Cops with guns stopped the crazy.

Next time cops might not be there, so citizens better carry.

  8. As one who used firearms to defend life and property. The gun grabbing Dems lost this one.
Never fired a shot, either ,but the receiver slamming shut on a Mossberg .12ga has way of adjusting attitude.

  10. Politicians fear the NRA for two reasons:

    1. The NRA has a large membership
    2. NRA members vote.

  11. One small bone to pick, Don. Jim Brady lost part of his mind due to the shooting. I can't denigrate him for his stance on gun control because of that, and if memory serves, his wife was the real activist.
