Oops, there goes another anti-Trump narrative

Always concerned about the business climate in Florida, the New York Daily News reported on March 6:
President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago visits hurting local businesses, city requests reimbursement for security costs

Oh no! How dare President Trump use as a winter retreat the resort that Margaret Merriweather Post once bequeathed to the United States to use as a winter retreat for presidents!

From the story:
The Republican President has made four visits to his Florida estate in the few months he has been in office and local business owners said it’s costing them thousands, NBC News reported.
The owner of Southern Helicopters told the news station his choppers are grounded every time Trump arrives in the area.
“We are basically going broke,” he said. “We were not expecting to come down almost every weekend."
The story cited similar Trump-is-destroying-Palm Beach stories by NBC and the Washington Post.

One month later, Xi Jinping of China visits President Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

From CNBC:
Why Xi's visit to Trump's Florida estate could spark Mar-a-Lago mania
Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Mar-a-Lago will boost the already surging interest in Florida among Chinese homebuyers, according to the CEO of an international property portal in China.
The spotlight on President Donald Trump's club — which has an annual membership fee of $200,000 — has transformed Mar-a-Lago into a status symbol for rich and ambitious Chinese seeking to follow the footsteps of their country's most powerful man, according to Charles Pittar, CEO of Juwai.com.
Xi's visit, he said, sends a strong message to China's domestic audience that Mar-a-Lago is a "wonderful" destination in which they should have confidence.
"Historically, Los Angeles and New York have been the mainstays of (Chinese) demand," Pittar said, adding that Florida is quickly taking the spotlight, spurring on a Mar-a-Lago mania.
Juwai.com's database, which calculates the number of inquiries as buyer interest, shows a 62.5 percent jump of Florida property inquiries from Chinese buyers in 2016 compared to 2015, and a 48 percent rise from 2014 to 2015.
Wait, I interrupt this post for a report by USA Today:
No Big Macs on the menu for Xi visit
PALM BEACH, Fla. — When President Barack Obama hosted a state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2015, then-candidate Donald Trump promised there would be no such extravagance for the Chinese leader when he became president.
"I would not be throwing him a dinner. I would get him a McDonald’s hamburger and say we’ve got to get down to work because you can’t continue to devalue (the Chinese currency)," Trump told Fox News' Bill O'Reilly. "I would give them probably a double-sized Big Mac."
From CNN:
Trump hosts Xi Jinping: No Big Macs on the menu
From Politico:
Trump offers Xi steak, not a Big Mac, at Mar-a-Lago
Donald Trump did not buy Xi a Big Mac.

I repeat: Donald Trump did not buy Xi a Big Mac.

This is not a drill. Please remain calm, and walk in an orderly fashion to the nearest Civil Defense shelter to await further instruction.

Face it, under a Democratic president, the media never is this entertainingly hysterical.

The original."Trump the Press" chronicled and mocked how the media missed Trump's nomination.

It is available on Kindle, and in paperback.

Then came "Trump the Establishment," covering the election, which again the media missed.

It is available on Kindle, and in paperback.

  1. I can only hope a similar story later this summer helps boost Bedminster, NJ's real estate.

    1. Wow. I had not thought of that. Hey, we need a Liechtenstein-USA summit at Scarlet Oaks country club in Poca. We are just like Vaduz, without the castles.

  2. An important point to remember about 'Progressives' is their inane need to dwell in a "what if" world.

Life is about living in the "what is".

As a wise man once said, "Wish in one hand and pee in the other. Its a sure bet which one will fill up first."

  3. Although he was a superb college athlete, the press branded Gerald Ford a stumbling nincompoop in order to help elect the Einstein shading genius and Nuclear Scientist Jimmy Carter. Meanwhile, To continue skiing after his presidency, Ford bought a home in an obscure little Colorado town called Vale. While the press, led by the NYT, labored and lied every day to make excuses for the worst president in history, until Obama, another press masterpiece, beat him out for the title. Indeed, among other unforced errors, Carter created 25% stagflation and catastrophe in the Middle East for 2 generations to follow, a legacy of failure Raging even now. In the meantime, Ford watched his vacation home skyrocket in value as people flocked to buy homes near him, fine man that he was and Vale prospered mightily. So it will be in Palm Beach.
The Daily News is owned by a real estate billionaire who hates Trump's guts. The paper itself is an economic failure and has so far been unsellable. Yet when you are a billionaire, like say Emperor Bezos of WaPo or Mort Zuckerman of the News, profits from selling your mechanical wind up toys that only bark, walk in circles, then fall over are of no importance to your bottom line. You can make yourself happy all the time, do or say what you want.

  4. It's good that we can recoup some of the money we sent to China, but there should be some restrictions on how much of America we sell to them. I see that the Chinese are especially interested in our movie industry. That could be problematic. - Elric

    1. Why? Hollywood already makes junk nobody watches, so what if they make junk no body watches in Mandarin?
With luck, after a few years, they will relocate it all to Beijing. We could be rid of Sean Penn and a host of others.
I will hold out hope, that as part of their efforts to bring Kim yuck foo in line, they make it the Hollywood of Asia.

  5. Next year, after the property buying boom due to Xi's visit to Mar-A-Lago, the Fishwrap of Record will run stories about how real estate in Palm Beach, FL has become unaffordable for the average citizen. When a LibDem isn't President there is never any good news.

  6. Waitaminute- so President Donald Trump didn't buy Xi Jinping a Big Mac?

Then Xi Jinping had to buy his own, right?

Talk about sending a message! That'll learn him! (LOL, the #LyingMedia can be so funny sometimes.)

  7. In years past, as I recall, Republican candidates and Republican presidents made it a point to pay their obligated security bills to the local authorities, while the Democrats were known for not paying their bills and stiffing the locals. The Trump administration should pay the bona fide security costs for his visits there as a matter of Republican honor...unless it's a Hillary Democrat or NeverTrumper who has his hand out for payment, in which case the White House should just say "I won, screw you!"

    1. Or turn the tables, thoroughly vet the chopper guy, then instead of having him grounded, have him fly dignitaries on tours. There is a lot of stuff well worth seeing in that region.
