C.I.A. Had Evidence of Russian Effort to Help Trump Earlier Than BelievedHere is your narrative in the New York Times after:
Syria Strike Puts U.S. Relationship With Russia at Risk

The narrative used to be that Trump was Putin's Puppet, and that an investigation into this put Trump's presidency in jeopardy.
From the New York Times:
WASHINGTON — The C.I.A. told senior lawmakers in classified briefings last summer that it had information indicating that Russia was working to help elect Donald J. Trump president, a finding that did not emerge publicly until after Mr. Trump’s victory months later, former government officials say. Then came Thursday night's bombing of a base in Syria used in a chemical weapons attack by Assad's military.
The briefings indicate that intelligence officials had evidence of Russia’s intentions to help Mr. Trump much earlier in the presidential campaign than previously thought. The briefings also reveal a critical split last summer between the C.I.A. and counterparts at the F.B.I., where a number of senior officials continued to believe through last fall that Russia’s cyberattacks were aimed primarily at disrupting America’s political system, and not at getting Mr. Trump elected, according to interviews.
From the New York Times:
WASHINGTON — The American military strike against Syria threatened Russian-American relations on Friday as the Kremlin denounced President Trump’s use of force and the Russian military announced that it was suspending an agreement to share information about air operations over the country, devised to avoid accidental conflict.
Mr. Trump, who has made repairing strained ties with Moscow a central ambition of his presidency, even amid criticism of Russian meddling in last year’s American election, found that goal at risk as both sides traded harsh words in a diplomatic confrontation reminiscent of past dark moments between the two powers.
President Vladimir V. Putin’s office called the Tomahawk cruise missile strike on Syria a violation of international law and a “significant blow” to the Russian-American relationship, while Prime Minister Dmitri A. Medvedev said it had “completely ruined” it. For their part, Trump administration officials suggested Russia bore some responsibility for the chemical weapons attack on Syrian civilians that precipitated the American response. So according to the imaginations of those who produce the Newspaper of Discord, Putin rigged the United States election to install his puppet -- who is now straining relations with Russia.
Wasn't this the plot in all those Chucky movies?

Before Thursday, neocon Max Boot sounded like Charles Blow of the New York Times.
First Blow:
We are still not conclusively able to connect the dots on the question of whether there was any coordination or collusion between members of Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russians who interfered in our election to benefit him, but those dots do continue to multiply at an alarming rate.Next Boot:
Is Trump Russia's useful idiot or has he been irreparably compromised?
Every day seems to bring fresh news in the Kremlin-gate scandal about Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Then came the bombing, and oh, Max Boot is pleased, but... Trump has some explaining to do.
Meh, I only quote these losers to point out what bad liars they are. Horrible. They cannot keep their story straight, and they are the only ones believing their lies. Pathetic. They cannot accept they lost last November, and that it is actual god for the country that they lost.
It's over for them. All over. They thought they could keep their lie about Putin hijacking the election going for four years. How do you disprove a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma?
By taking out a base in Syria, President Trump just did.

The original."Trump the Press" chronicled and mocked how the media missed Trump's nomination.
It is available on Kindle, and in paperback.
Then came "Trump the Establishment," covering the election, which again the media missed.
It is available on Kindle, and in paperback.

I liked what Nikki Haley, our UN Ambassador had to say. Russia was supposed to guarantee that all of the chemical weapons were out of Syria. Apparently they didn't.
ReplyDelete“Let’s think about the possible reasons for Russia’s failure. It could be that Russia is knowingly allowing chemical weapons to remain in Syria. It could be that Russia has been incompetent in its efforts to remove the chemical weapons, or it could be that the Assad regime is playing the Russians for fools, telling them that there are no chemical weapons, all the while stockpiling them on their bases."
It's gotta be one of those three cases, Putin. Pick your poison. - Elric
Embrace the power of AND.
DeleteAnother option is a few faithless individuals in the Syrian Air Force who hid a couple of weapons, and then decided that now was the time to use them and wreak total havoc. Such a move would strain the Russian relations as well as come close to toppling Asad. We are not the only nation with traitors in government. I'm sure Bashar Asad has a Nancy P Lousy and a John McInsane all his own.
ReplyDeleteThe NYT watches those old episodes of Corporal Klinger trying to get his Section Eight, and thinks "Amateur!"
ReplyDeleteDON SURBER: NYT Does A 180 on Russia. “Meh, I only quote these losers to point out what bad liars they are. Horrible. They cannot keep their story straight, and they are the only ones believing their lies. Pathetic. They cannot accept they lost last November.”

Maybe the trying-to-have-it-both-ways will hurt the anti-Trump agenda of the Media -- maybe by making the raging hatred for Trump and any or all Republicans blatantly obvious to where the people will see the lies for what they are -- but I want to interject that my friends, especially from college in the late 60's are saying right now, after Syria that Trump's betraying Putin does not changed the, according to them, absolutely already proven fact that Trump went to Putin and begged him to help him defeat Hillary by stealing the election. There is no doubt at all in their minds and I cannot believe the minds of Democrats will ever change, no matter what the FBI finally concludes (after Comey said that Russia was scared to death that Hillary would win). And, of course, when will the FBI finish their investigation -- 2020?
ReplyDeleteThe NYT article, "Syria Strike Puts U.S. Relationship With Russia at Risk", had to be one of the most blatant anti-Trump, pro-Russian pieces I have ever read. The NYT has gone way beyond pathetic. Did a zombie Walter Duranty write it?
ReplyDeleteIt's called sucking and blowing.
ReplyDeleteNo idea how you put up with this, Don. I can't read the hypocrisy any more.
ReplyDeleteBut, but, but MSNBC's Lawrence O’Donnell said, "What if Putin and Trump arranged the Syria bombing to distract from Russiagate?" I'm sure this is the new attack line from the Left.

ReplyDeleteJust throwing this monkey wrench in the works.

The Donald has more ways to put the press in check than Bobby Fisher. They are being toyed with and too clueless to know it.
For those of you investors out there, I would say go long on aluminum. Cause it sure looks to me like there are a whole lotta Libs donning tin foil hats these days.
ReplyDeletePlus Tomahawk missiles and aircraft
DeleteI just think of these people as drum majors trying desperately to get in front of the parade again, after they wandered off to march over the cliff with Hillary 2016.
ReplyDeleteThey're all surplus now, and serious consideration should be given to just busting them up and selling the remains as scrap metal.
