The cadets and the midshipmen loved it. They know he has got their back. I fully expect him to break tradition and give the commencement speech at both academies and the Air Force, too.
Trump had a good time, spending the first half on the Army side and the second half on the Navy side with Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, USMC. That is the tradition.
In-between halves, he did some time with the CBS announcers and said:
I just love the armed forces, love the folks. Their spirit is so incredible, I mean, I don't know if it is necessarily the best football, but they have the best spirit -- more than anybody -- it's beautiful! Some people tried to make a controversy of this, but everyone knows football is not why those boys are there. They have been preparing since junior high to become military officers. Young women too.
Trump appreciates it.
Obama does not.
In 40 days, Trump will be commander-in-chief, and he told CBS: "It's a humbling thought. It's a great honor and a great responsibility."
Not many things humble Donald Trump.
I hope he enjoys these finally few weeks (less than six now) when he is working hard and enjoying the limelight. This will not last. Never does. But if he is as skilled a CEO as I think he is, President Trump will enjoy a fun eight years in which we make America great again.

Have a little fun. Read "Trump the Press," in which I skewer media experts who wrongly predicted Trump would lose the Republican nomination. "Trump the Press" is available as a paperback, and on Kindle.

I agree with him on the football. The service academies will never have the best teams because they don't recruit for football. They look for leaders and people with brains. Guys going to Annapolis, West Point, or Colorado Springs are not thinking football 24 hrs a day. They are not looking to make a career in entertainment. GOD, Bless them.
ReplyDeleteQuite so.
DeletePlus they have weight and height requirements.
DeleteThanks, brother. AFA grad '80. First class with ladies! The Academies still know how to do education right. And yes, all of our athletes knew the sports stuff was just a secondary thing. Duty, Honor, Country comes first. I second your comment. God bless the outstanding men and women I saw yesterday on TV. They are the REAL future of this country.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but did he jinx the Navy? Being a Navy man from a Navy family, I sure hope not.
ReplyDeleteFrom a Navy family too. Just the way the ball bounces, but Army did like Trump - won when few thought they would. Proud of both teams.
DeleteAnd appointing generals to cabinet positions, too. It's going to feel so good to actually have a real President again. - Elric
ReplyDeleteAnd he's the first President-Elect to ever go to the Army/Navy game; classy!

And no player took a knee while the national anthem was played, amirite?
ReplyDeleteI think the UCMJ would be brought into play if that happened.

Barracks Justice. One blanket, several bars of soap in socks and a lasting memory.
DeleteHe could also do the Coast Guard and Merchant Marine academies.

He's a better president than Obungler and he hasn't even taken office yet!
ReplyDeletePresident Obama only attended one Army-Navy football game and it's a big deal? Hilarious. Obama made numerous trips to the Dover Delaware Base to honor returning fallen soldiers upon their first return to the U.S. Bush made ZERO trips to Dover. How many will Trump make?
ReplyDeleteTrump is working 12 hour days but has no time for intelligence briefings? ... but he has time to criticize Saturday Night Live?
Trump 2014: "Fact--Obama does not read his intelligence briefings nor does he get briefed in person by the CIA or DOD. Too busy I guess!"
What a joke for a president-elect.
