His name is Andrew Puzder and he was born in Cleveland, and graduated from Cleveland State (my alma mater as well). He lawyered for anti-abortion groups, and later met Carl Karcher, who founded Carl's Jr., who had financial problems. Puzder helped him turn it around.
His company provides those minimum-wage jobs that teach young people how towork.
There was some squawking that he is soft on illegal aliens.
So he issued this statement:
My job as a business person is to maximize profits for my company, employees and shareholders. My job as the Secretary of Labor, if confirmed, is to serve U.S. citizen workers – that is my moral and constitutional duty. The public spoke loud and clear in this election, and delivered a mandate to protect American workers. It makes no economic sense to spend trillions on welfare and jobless benefits for out of work Americans while bringing in foreign workers to fill jobs in their place.
As Secretary of Labor, I will fiercely defend American workers and implement my piece of the ten point plan the President-elect laid out. President-elect Trump's plan to establish new immigration controls will boost wages and ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first. Hire American and Buy American is our policy, and the one supported by voters in both parties.
I will not provide guest worker visas to companies that break the rules, and will support reforms to raise wages for Americans -- I know the system from the inside, and will be the best champion American workers have had.
With 94 million Americans outside the labor force, and massive unemployment in our inner cities and among minority workers, my job will be to help these workers find jobs. We also have large unemployment in our immigrant communities, and these communities benefit the most from clamping down on guest worker programs that compete against them.”Sounds like President Trump just hired a competent CEO to run Labor.

Have a little fun. Read "Trump the Press," in which I skewer media experts who wrongly predicted Trump would lose the Republican nomination. "Trump the Press" is available as a paperback, and on Kindle.

ReplyDeleteHe would sometimes appear on a morning "news" show where they would try to embarrass him about Hardee's latest 1500-2000 calorie burger. All he would say basically is that their customers want to eat delicious, juicy burgers. No apologies. No excuses. Loved him immediately. Love the pick.
ReplyDeleteRight on, Mr. Lardmaster! Tasty burgers. Yum. Mouth is watering already. I mean, Trump could've hired a German Shepherd as SecLabor and it would've been a better choice than that weird, meek, clueless Elaine Chao. The Donald is on a roll...
DeleteDrudge today: fat is good for you.
DeleteMusic to a Lardmaster.
DeleteSamuel L Jackson loved himself a tasty Big Kahuna burger. Everyone loves those big tasty burgers.
DeleteNot only the burgers are tasty at Carl's- their TV ads are filled with goodness, too! This man appreciates all-American beauty, and those ads certainly arouse MY appetite!
ReplyDeleteUm, my appetite for a juicy, mouth-watering burger, of course! What else could I mean?
DeleteIf he convinced President-Elect Trump I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt regarding immigration. If he doesn't do a good job, well, "You're fired!" - Elric
ReplyDeleteHow refreshing is it to have people putting America first: it's an effing shame that it isn't the status quo, and we have to be floored by the possibility. And I started at $3.35 an hour cutting the grass, emptying trash, etc. in cemeteries in the town I grew up in. The guys there taught me to drive a stick on the dump-truck we used and I learned plenty about hard work. Unforgettable.
ReplyDelete$1.85 for me. I hated every minute I was earning at that level. Taught me I had to improve myself.
DeleteAnn Coulter and Mickey Kause are taking a very hard line on the Puzder nomination. As much as I enjoy these two writers, I have little time for their right wing version of political correctness.
ReplyDeleteA CEO of a corporation has a fiduciary duty to his shareholders. And that duty is to maximise profits for the shareholders within the law. While corporate law varies in different jurisdictions, in general, if he does not, for whatever reason, he is in breach and can be held liable.
Puzder discharged his fiduciary duties admirably and I am sure he will discharge his duties to Trump's political agenda just as admirably.
Coulter, Kause, and other critics, are in over their heads when talking about personal ethics and the law. In short, theydon't know what they are talking about.
This is one of the cult game now, a lot of people enjoy playing them . Also you can refer to the game :
