And Democrats paid the price.
In the last four federal elections (and four off-year elections), Democrats lost a total of 1,030 state and national seats and offices.
The devastation is so severe that even the Huffington Post noticed it.

The Huffington Post's senior politics editor, Sam Stein, says President Obama oversaw "the destruction of the Democratic Party," leaving it "in a much worse position" than before his presidency started.
"You look at the destruction of the Democratic Party under Barack Obama’s leadership and you have to wonder, what was the political — what were the electoral benefits that he gave to the party?” Stein asked on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Wednesday.
“He leaves them in a much worse position,” Stein continued. “The states are decimated, they lost control of the House and Senate, the governorships are decimated.”What a change from 8 years ago when Democrats promised a new reich that would last a thousand years!

Stein also said, “Maybe [Obama] is a gifted candidate. He won election twice by substantial margins, but his legacy as a politician is a bit muddied by all that.”
Could have told them that when I saw him bogarting that joint as president of the Choom Club.

Stuart Rothenberg, Charlie Cook, and Larry Sabato are considered in Washington, D.C. to be experts in election forecasts. Much in the same way that the Three Stooges are expert in plumbing, as Rothenberg, Cook, and Sabato have not gotten an election right since 2008.
Rothenberg tweeted a few days ago: "Come on. Get real. That's what people said about the GOP after Goldwater. The Dem Party has not been destroyed."
Yep. Sixteen years later, Reagan came and Republicans finally took the Senate after 22 years as the minority.
Of course, in the intervening time, we got Vietnam, Medicaid, the EPA, and welfare, welfare, welfare. Oh, and Iran took 52 American hostages.
So, please, let Hillary be their Goldwater so we can undo the damage Obama did to his country, as well as his party.

ReplyDeleteThe really huge question that I haven't seen anyone asking is how does the Democrat party shed cultural Marxism without totally dismembering itself? It is becoming increasingly obvious that that party, during the last eight years has based its identity and mode of operation on non-white or even anti-white political bias, making a bet that they could appeal to these sentiments with the aid of the omnipresent media for political gain, and that the objects of their derision would go along with it out of "white guilt", shame of their "white privilege", or just not noticing. Did the elites of the party never include in their calculations that this might be a mistake? Or were they hoping for it to culminate in breaking up the union? Were the Dems'r the real racists right? That this is revenge for the Civil War (ridiculous)?

Just like when the Marxists ignored Bohm-Bawerk and Mises about prices, our modern Marxists just chose to hang their hats on another nihilistic campaign of destruction. They could never get it into their heads that price is the greatest expression of the general will, and perhaps the only one that we can even measure; and now they have chosen to dabble in the currency of culture, race and sexuality, the other realms of general will outside the ability of academic autists to control and manipulate.

The Democrat Party has moved very far left and abandoned its traditional supporters, who lent their votes to Trump this time. If the Dems want their old allies back they are going to have to recognize the political reality and cooperate with Trump by giving him a lot of what he wants. If they stand opposed and obstruct his policies, as they have threatened to do, that will be their undoing. It is a losing strategy that will permanently alienate their traditional supporters. The Dems need to pivot sharply back to the center if they want to rebuild their political fortunes. But as a Conservative I'm pretty sanguine about what they will do. I think they are psychologically committed to go even farther left. Like someone afflicted to cutting and self-injury, they cannot help themselves. After 8 years of the feckless Obama, the Democrat Party is gravely ill. The fatal wrist slashing has not been struck yet. But it will come. It will come.

Perhaps Obama saw this genral political weakness coming so decided to act as an autocrat as much as he could. We cannot forget that HC raised and spent 1.2 Billion. Some of her donors were looking for bribe repayment but many probably not. Also the Bernie brigades raised a fair amount of change for him to incinerate. Perhaps Don could tell us which states were responsible for most of the money consumed by HC. If there are only two on the coasts then it very well may be the Democrats will be in trouble at the top of the ticket and by inference total power for some time since they will all want to be Mugabe clones too and, like king Zero, will never be able to build much consensus in the country as a whole. If the money was scattered around they may not be dead yet, too bad. However if DT is an economic success they could easily lose in 20 or even beyond. We live in an age like no other so projections are fun but more tenuous than ever.

If the Republicans can deliver over the next 4 years, I believe the Dems will be in big trouble for a long time. Especially if we get the Supreme court to a 6-3 majority and we get rid of Federal unions. If the Federal unions are out of power so are the Democrats.

ReplyDeleteIf "we the people" are paramount, price must be central. Conservatives embrace price; lefty-socialists ignore it...they must ignore it because price conflicts with their vision.
Price reflects mutuality of agreement. There is no compulsion in price; it is voluntary, unforced. Price is the central expression of freedom. I have something for sale. You want to buy it. We must agree on a price, but when we do, we are both happy; you get your purchase while I get your funds, both via free choices based entirely on agreed price. Not only can price/cost be measured, but price itself IS a measurement. Value to you and I is precise because value equals price/cost.
Value to leftist-socialists is measured otherwise. Costs and price are considered irrelevant, so policies can be based on remote goals that cannot be measured. The goals can become "happiness, acceptance, inclusion," or any utopian feel-good vision that (fortunately for the leftist) cannot be measured. "Inclusion" in government and academia is measured by how many women and minorities are included; that this "inclusion" excludes others with more talent and higher scores is unimportant. The long run cost of incompetence is irrelevant. It is unimportant that the national debt can be doubled to achieve "inclusion," or to eliminate "discrimination." Whatever today's policy may be, tomorrow's policy will be different. When public policies and decisions are made without consideration of cost/price we get global warming today, academic inclusion tomorrow, solar panels the next day, and "free-no cost-feel good" immigration next week.
Note that in 2018, there are 25 Democratic Senate seats up for grabs, 10 of them (IIRC) in states Trump won, and only 8 GOP seats. If Trump manages to be Not Hitler for two years, and there isn't a Black Swan economic crash, the Democrats will be in an even worse position.
