Never Trump lost its case today

FBI Director James Comey's recommendation that Hillary escape prosecution today crystallized what this election is about. Either you vote for a Democratic Republic, or you vote against Trump.

That's it. Staying at home or going third party is neutrality in the face of evil.

Don't like the choice, too damned bad. That is your problem, not mine. As Rick Blaine said in Casablanca, "I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that."

In fact, I wrote about Casablanca in my book, "Trump the Press," which does not overlook Trump's faults:
We like to think of our heroes as cowboys, Roy Rogers riding tall in the saddle on Trigger, the smartest horse in the world. The cowboy fights the bad guys, saves the ranch, and wins the girl. He has a code that includes humility, sacrifice, and self-reliance.
However, our heroes are seldom altruistic. Rick Blaine in the movie Casablanca ran an upscale nightclub and gambling den. He was a slump-shouldered chain smoker. Cynical, self-centered, and bitter, Blaine still nursed a broken heart from an affair that ended badly in Paris.
Of course Blaine and a crooked cop eventually do the right thing.

So will Trump. Oh in that chapter, I covered the bankruptcies, the eminent domain lawsuit, and other marks against him, but I ended that chapter:
Trump was not Roy Rogers or even Rick Blaine. But he was not the tail end of Trigger either. Trump rallied a people whom the political class had ignored, which, my friends, is presidential leadership.
I get that many Jewish conservatives think he is anti-Semitic. The family name is Drumpf. All Germans and their descendants are Nazis, right? I read Fear of Flying. Sure, I could point out that his eldest daughter and three of his grandchildren are Jewish, but I could also talk to the wall, like Faron Young.

My only argument for Never Trump people is that we know Hillary is anti-Semitic. She would sell out Israel for an Iranian "donation" in a heartbeat. Trump? Maybe, maybe not.

What other arguments are there? He is unprincipled? Again, look at Hillary. In fact, that is my only argument for the Never Trump crowd: Hillary is the Devil You Know, but Trump is Schrödinger's candidate. Might be a devil, or he could be an angel. Likely he falls in between. This is Quantum Politics because for some readers it will take a quantum leap to vote for Trump.

But might as well Jump. Go ahead and Jump.

And do not simply hold your nose (again) and vote, but work for him. Send him a few bucks or at least buy the T shirt and wear it (unless you live among the Blue Meanies). As much faith and confidence as I have in Trump, let us leave nothing to chance. The stakes are too damned high now.

  1. Donald Trump is definitely not anti-Semitic. The Israelis realize that, but they don't want to be seen as trying to influence an American election (unlike our President Obama and Israeli elections.

Hillary has surrounded herself with anti-Semites seemingly forever. Remember her kissing Suha Arafat? And what about Huma Abedin an her familial Muslim Brotherhood connections? Sid Blumenthal? Gimme a break!

But that's just one morally distasteful aspect of Hillary. Add them all up and what do you have? Obama 3.0 on steroids. - Elric

  5. There is one set of laws for them and another for the rest of us. They can do ANYTHING and we get threatened if we even think about it or look guilty. Screw'em.

  6. Hillary is not the devil we know, but THE DEVIL herself to all conservatives. Trump...well, I don't know he's a devil. Could be, but I'm betting on not.

  7. Excellent point and the one that only ever mattered.

PS For those who might freak at the fact's Trump's name is German, so was a guy named Eisenhower.

And there are plenty of Jews with names like Reiner and Steinberg.

  9. There is another solution beyond "Evil Hillary" for NeverTrump folks. For the good of the country, Donald needs to address the GOP convention, refuse the nomination and nominate Ted Cruz as our candidate. After all, Dilbert Cartoonist and Trump advocate Scott Adams says: "Trump has an American-first view of the world that creates healthy competition with other countries."

So refusing the nomination puts country first ahead of personal aggrandizement, but don't hold your breath. The solipsistic world of Trump begins and ends with Donald Trump. Nothing, and no one else, even exists. That is why he is so rude and unlikable and it is why he is such a pathological liar.

    1. I read this identical comment at Althouse today. Do you always cut and paste like that or only when you're especially "proud" of your work?
