Kyoto II, a gift to Republicans?

As I gaze out my back window across the yard and see the three cooling towers of the John Amos power plant across the river, I reflect upon the harmlessness of the steam it emits. The real problem is in the two chimneys that rise higher and emit the toxic stuff. American Electric Power and its subsidiary Appalachian Power spent a billion bucks making those chimneys keep a very tight lid on emissions which, depending on the type of pollutant, have fallen in emissions by as much as 95 percent over the years. Industry has pretty much licked pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency was supposed to be the death of capitalism. Instead, companies met the goals and now, with pollution under control, the Democratic Party and its international allies have moved on to limiting nutrients, specifically carbon dioxide. They wish to tax the air we breathe and have concocted a silly theory about the planet getting too warm. If only.

In 1995, the bureaucrats met in Kyoto, Japan, and agreed to the Kyoto Protocol because we had to act now. If we wait for proof that carbon dioxide is harmful to us, it will be too late. That is what they said at the time. President Clinton sensing folly sent Al Gore to the meeting. The Senate rejected the treaty 95-0. A shutout. In 2000, Al Gore lost West Virginia -- a reliably Democratic state -- and lost the presidency 271-266 in the Electoral College. Had Gore carried West Virginia, he would have won 271-266.

Now 20 years later, we have another Kyoto, this time in Paris. The Democratic Party is going to keep pushing Kyotos on us until we cave. Much like Hillarycare. I don't think it works this time.

From the Washington Examiner:
Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday the climate agreement reached this week in Paris did not contain any enforcement provisions because Congress would not have approved them.
"It doesn't have mandatory targets for reduction and it doesn't have an enforcement, compliance mechanism," Kerry said during an interview on "Fox News Sunday."
Kerry said such mechanisms were not included because Congress would have refused to greenlight the deal.
Binding legal requirements would have made the Paris agreement a treaty, requiring approval from two-thirds of the Senate. Because no climate change measure could close to the high bar in the chamber, the Paris deal was written to avoid it.
So we have a nothingburger that is harmless to Americans, their electric bills, and their economy. It is non-binding because in 20 years, Westerners have looked at the data on global warming and realized it is a hoax. Rare is the Western country that would legislate Kyoto II, and so these bureaucrats issued this nonsense.

No harm, no foul?

You see, while they were wasting time on this, President Obama and his secretary of state were ignoring the Islamic State. They keep fiddling with domestic policy while real evil lurks; it beheads infidels, stones women, executes homosexuals, and slaughters innocents around the world. Gun control and eliminating carbon dioxide will not save the world from any real problem.

This agreement, though, brands the Democratic Party as the unserious party.

Republicans ain't much, but they are not Democrats. That should be their motto for 2016: "At Least We Ain't Democrats."

  1. The only dangerous CO2 emissions are the ones coming from Liberal's mouths. Especially John Forgery Ketchup. Maybe we could get congress to limit his emissions.

  2. Sooooo, 300,000 tons of CO2 were emitted by the jets taking all these pols there, and ridiculous millions of bucks and other moneys were spent for...a photo op?
    Truly, an Obamanation.

  3. All those western elites in one place at the same time. Did anyone alert ISIS about this wonderful opportunity gone down the tubes?
