Annual cops-bust-lemonade stand story

Why do we put up with this nonsense?

The headline: "Texas cops shut down young sisters’ lemonade stand, citing health code."

From the New York Daily News:
Texas cops cracked down on a black market operation flouting state health regulations — two little girls running a lemonade stand.
Sisters Andria and Zoey Green schemed to raise enough money to take their dad to Splash Kingdom water park for Father’s Day, they told KYTX.
“We were doing just fine until the cops came,” Andria, 7, told the station.
“They shut us down,” Zoey, 8, added.
A joint squad of Overton police and code enforcement officers sprang into action after uncovering the illicit juice purveyors.
The tiny kingpins had already earned $25 selling lemonade for 50 cents a cup and “Kettle Korn” for $1 a bag when authorities busted them for not taking out the proper permits.
Again, why do we put up with this nonsense?

I realize, it isn't slamming a girl to the ground for crashing a pool party, but we now accept a government that regulates every breathe we take.

But there is a happy ending from KYTX: "Update: Lemonade stand girls receive donated tickets."

  1. Local ordnances should very specifically allow these stands.

  2. They USE the health code but in reality it's for the UNION and local businesses. They are afraid of any and all competition and must eradicate.
