Prime Minister: "Australians are sick of being lectured to by the United Nations"

Tony Abbott is my favorite prime minister (sorry Stephen Harper, but you are now No. 2). It is not because his daughters are gorgeous (as is Rachel Harper), but because Tony Abbott stands up for Australia.

Carbon tax? Gone.

Immigration laws? Enforced.

United Nations? Challenged.

The United Nations objected to Prime Minister Tony Abbott enforcing the nation's immigration laws by discouraging people from traveling 5,000 miles from Sri Lanka in rickety boats to seek asylum.

You may recall that the UN Human Rights Council includes Cuba, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and other routine violators of human rights.

The UN issued some report blasting Australia. PM Abbott responded: "I really think Australians are sick of being lectured to by the United Nations. The most humanitarian, the most decent, the most compassionate thing you can do is stop these boats because hundreds, we think about 1,200 in fact, drowned at sea during the flourishing of the people smuggling trade under the former government."

But surely he knows that lives don't matter to the UN.

Destroying Western democracies does.

From the Sydney Morning Herald:
Australians are "sick of being lectured to by the United Nations", Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said after a report found Australia's treatment of asylum seekers breaches an international anti-torture convention.
Mr Abbott's criticism of the UN follows his attack last month of Australian Human Rights Commission President Gillian Triggs, in which he called the report she commissioned on children in detention a "political stitch-up".
Give 'em hell, Tony.

  1. Who directed this confrontational statement at PM Abbott last year? "We cannot built [sic] a moat around our countries, and we shouldn’t try." Take a guess. Why, it was our President ibn ben Obama, during his visit to Australia for a G-20 meeting. It was in connection with Australia's decision to temporarily block access to Australia from African nations where the Ebola epidemic was raging, in contrast with the irrational open borders policy of the White House.

  2. Oz needs no moat, having the South Pacific, but they need to stop the people smugglers and their barely floating boats.

  4. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a president who loved and would stick up for his country?
