Parkland survivors sue the Coward of Broward

The parents of students who survived the Valentine Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, are suing.

17 people died in the tragedy.

They are not blaming the National Rifle Association, but place the blame squarely on school and law enforcement officials who failed to protect the students.

"Each of the 15 plaintiffs represented in the lawsuit are students who were at the school on the day of the shooting, according to a press release on Wednesday," The Hill reported.

"The lawsuit’s defendants include Broward County, where the high school is located; the school’s superintendent; and four members of local law enforcement."

Solomon Radner, one of the attorneys representing the survivors, said, "The allegations in this complaint — many of which have been publicly known for some time — paint a shocking image of one missed opportunity after another on the part of the defendants.

"I can’t help but think had the defendants seized on one — ONE — of these missed opportunities to stop the shooter in his tracks, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School might have been the name of just another school instead of being synonymous with mass shooting."

The Hill also said, "Four of the five counts in the lawsuit deal with former school resource officer Scot Peterson’s behavior before the shooting. The lawsuit alleges that Peterson conducted an invasive search of several students’ backpacks hours before the shooting and took $200 from one student that he accused of selling drugs."

Peterson was a bully, but when push came to show, he was a coward who refused to confront a kid with a gun.

I wonder where that $200 is.

  1. Damned straight.

Those kids will be haunted by that for the rest of their lives.

As the young entrepreneur Johnny Hooker once observed, "It ain't enough. But it'll do".

Why is that a surprise? In my experience bullies are typically cowards. Especially schoolyard bullies, whether children or adults.

  3. "The lawsuit alleges that Peterson conducted an invasive search of several students’ backpacks hours before the shooting..." Well, this is interesting. Was he checking to make sure that no one had a weapon to fight back with?

  4. Peterson -- just a Droog, without an Alex to Sing in the Rain.

Not 1984, not Brave New World -- but Clockwork Orange.

  5. I wonder what the odds are that the shooter kid was looking for this half-a-cop.

  6. That said let's not be letting the sheriff and the local government off the hook for this.
