Sermon from Our Lady of Never Trump

David A. French, who for one brief shining week in May 2016 was the great white hope for the Never Trump movement, lectured Christian evangelicals about defending President Trump. If ye do, thou are going to H-E-double hockey sticks.

He cited biblical verse and theologians.

"I’m reminded of the Westminster Shorter Catechism: 'What is the chief end of man? Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever,'" Friar French wrote.

He quoted Micah 6:8: "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

I used the King James Version. French didn't.

And Luke 9:23-27: "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God."

Friar French wrote, "Taken together, these words indicate that our life on this Earth should glorify God, demonstrate profound virtue, and count even our lives forfeit in the pursuit of eternal truth. "

Well, that's good to know and I will bear that in mind. Just what it has to do with politics is beyond my comprehension.

But supporting President Trump is a sin at Our Lady of Never Trump.

Friar French quoted Isaiah 5:20: "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Again, good advice.

But unfortunately for Friar French and the rest of the crew in Never Never Trumpland, no one is doing that.

No one is saying that Trump's alleged adultery is good.

We are ignoring it.

We love the sinner and hate the sin because we are all sinners. Christianity is about forgiveness, too.

God will take care of President Trump, not man.

David A. French and company have wasted the past three years of their lives opposing the most conservative president of our generation, a man who has done more with less than anyone since Reagan and who very well may surpass him.

Pride is a sin. Look how rotten their lives are because they refuse to accept and admit that they were wrong about President Trump.

Pray for them.

  1. Let it be noted that Donald Trump won the election because voters voted for the major party candidate who was sober. Cheating on your wife is certainly not a sign of virtue. However neither is Mrs. Clinton chronic habit of attempting to destroy all her husbands sexual partners.

    1. Yes, we vote for policies; our votes are not an endorsement of a candidate's sins. We are collectively an officeholder's employer, not collectively God.

  2. At least the Donald created jobs and helped other people, unlike the Harridan, who got people killed, destroyed people's lives, and enriched only herself and her own family. Not even the DNC got away unscathed!

Unless there is another, anonymous, "Anonymous" whose wise words we are reading here.

  3. You summed it up perfectly: Pride is a sin. Look how rotten their lives are because they refuse to accept and admit that they were wrong about President Trump.

Btw, Pride is the worst of "the 7 deadlies." Pride goeth before the fall and all that.

  5. If the Norks disarm and the economy keeps growing like Topsy then I don't care how many pornstars and playboy bunnies that Trump bangs.

Trump is an alpha male and he acts like one. It would be nice if Trump was an entirely different person, but then he would not be Trump. You have to take the good with the bad.

Sooner or later the Democrats and Never Trumpers will be supporting a candidate who is of dubious morality and when they do we will hear how consensual sex is nobody else's business.

    1. We heard that for 8 years in the 90's from the lame stream media and dems. Now they want it to be important. Well, screw them and the horse they rode in on.

  7. I voted to keep Hillary out. I think the majority did. Because we knew she would pick a pro abortion, anti second amendment Supreme Court justice. That SC vacancy is why Donald Trump was elected.

  8. I am a big believe that if sins were rated, sins of the flesh count much less against you than sins of the spirit. Of the 2 candidates poised to win in 2016, Donald Trump clearly had less "sin" points than Felonia von Pantsuit...therefore, by Friar French's own reasoning, it would have been a sin not to vote for Trump.

    1. The Christ-man speaks, Matt 7:11 >> "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"

That flat statement is God's blanket-indictment of all flesh; including all the tribes of Israel and the gentile nations, too. All flesh is corrupt and evil. No exceptions. (see Romans chapter 7) So from where comes any Good we might do? From God and nowhere else.

Donald J Trump demonstrates a keen sense of the distinction between ordinary lusts of death-cursed flesh and the genuine spiritual powers of Good & Evil at work on everyone all the time. DJT does 10x as much good as evil. So do a lot of other people. Compare Trump's works to the works of Bill Kristol. End. Of. Story.

    2. Very well said, Anon #10:36!

Please take a name & join us! A name is handy, otherwise you might be confused with the usual Anon we have to put up with (who thinks he's witty, but is only half right.)

  9. One wonders what David French would have said of King David, or King Solomon if he was alive during their reign? Or if he would be willing, today, to cut the Psalms and Proverbs out of his Bible readings. I'm getting tired of hearing Micah 6:8 as the summary conclusion of Faith. Let's cut to Solomon's offering in Ecclesiastes 8:14 instead: The conclusion when all has been heard is "Fear God and keep His commandments because this applies to every person." At least this cuts out the potential for "justice" to be mistranslated as SJW.

  10. David French wants to play the #NeverTrump thread because the alternative is admitting he was wrong. It is going to generate hits from pissed off MAGA voters and Democrats (looking to say, see, even evil Republicans hate Trump). In the long run though, it is nonsense.

  11. I said it before, and I'll say it again.

We elected a president, not a pastor.

  12. Mr. French and other NeverTrumpers are busy striking attitudes in lieu of doing anything serious. You don't have the choices you want, you have the choices you have. It'd be nice if decorum were the mode in our public life but it is not. People like me got smarmy lectures from partisan Democrats 20 years ago about our lack of Gallic sophistication. They're playing a shell game, and David French is a mark.

  13. Well, Jeb - the establishment choice - has a wife who knowingly attempted to defraud by smuggling in clothing rather than pay the tax and a daughter who was a drug addict and shoplifter. Seems something lacking in his character to allow behavior like that to go on. Nobody even mentioned it.

  15. French, etc. are trying to shame Evangelical Christians into throwing stones and pointing condemnatory fingers at DJT. IOW doing the exact opposite of what Jesus did in similar situations.

It's as if he hasn't opened the Book in a while -- if ever. His assistants probably fished up the verses.

  16. A) Trump's adultery is bad,
    B) The fornication throughout the OECD countries between people who are not married is bad
    C) Reps voting aren't going to change (B) in the near future

    D) Voting for a Rep for economic & freedom reasons is better than voting for a Dem.
