More on the Trump Effect and the correspondents' dinner

Once upon a time, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a fun affair in which the host and the president traded a few soft barbs. The place was packed with celebrities

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman, James Franco, Glenn Close, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Owen Wilson, Claire Danes, Mike Myers, Rashida Jones, Elizabeth Banks, Kerry Washington, Jason Wu, Jon Hamm, Eva Longoria, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jon Bon Jovi, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Ludacris, Denis Leary, and Donatella Versace were among those attending the 2010 festival, according to Vanity Fair.

Then along came DonaldTrump. He joined the birther movement, and the White House Correspondents’ Association began a feud that like so many other feuds with Trump ended disastrously.

"Trump Roasted and Skewered at White House Correspondents’ Dinner," New York magazine gleefully reported on May 1, 2011.

Instead of ribbing the president, the association rallied 'round him. It hired Seth Meyers to shame Trump, whom was invited by the Washington Post to attend.

"Trump said he’s running as a Republican. Which is surprising: I just assumed he was running as a joke … Trump owns the Miss USA Pageant, which is great for Republicans because it will streamline the search for a vice president … [Trump has] said he’s got a great relationship with ‘the blacks.’ Unless the Blacks are a family of white people, I bet he’s mistaken," Meyers said.

So he's a joke and  racist.

Compare that to his treatment of Obama.

"When you were sworn in you looked like the guy from the Old Spice commercials. Now you look like Louis Gosset Sr. If the president’s hair gets any whiter, the tea party is going to endorse it," Meyers said.

So his hair is graying. And the tea party is racist.

Years later, Roxanne Roberts of the Washington Post recalled sitting next to Trump at the dinner.

"With cameras aimed at him, Trump smiled at Obama’s jokes and waved at the crowd. His response to Meyers was less lighthearted: As the comedian hammered him, the billionaire didn’t crack a smile," she wrote in 2017.

Some say that was the night Donald Trump decided to run for president. He decided much earlier, but waited until five years after the dinner to run. So much for that theory.

As president, Trump skipped two dinners. Other are skipping as well, with Kathy Griffin being the biggest celebrity to attend.

Next year, there will be fewer attending the dinner.

"The Hill said Tuesday it is pulling out of future White House Correspondents' dinners without major reforms to the event following the controversy that erupted over comedian Michelle Wolf’s performance at this year’s dinner on Saturday," the Hill reported.

This association already is in the Trump Effect Hall of Shame, which now has 56 members.

But it bears repeating just how low these people sank. They had it made, but Marxists destroy everything eventually including themselves.

  1. I think the White House Correspondents Dinner as a friendly evening of relaxed ribbing was destroyed y Stephen Colbert's anti-George W Bush screed in 2006. However, W-Bush was too weak to fight back against being a punching bag and, like so many other left-wing assaults on conservatives, he absolutely refused to fight back. Trump fights. It's so nice not to have to pretend to support pansified psuedo-conservative wimps such as the spineless Bush Family who sits there and enjoys being the target of bullies.

You’d think the result of that whole USA versus USSR thing back in the 20th Century would give ‘em a clue as to which side to root for, wouldn’t you?

  3. I love your idea of a karmic effect knocking all these people. Today I heard another theory for why they are all going down.

John C Dvorak and Adam Curry have a long running podcast twice weekly. (Over 1000 episodes and 10 years) where they deconstruct the news, as they call it.

In Sunday's podcast, which I listened to today, they discussed Tom Brokaw, Joy reid and others who have found themselves in trouble. They had a long list and they do not think it is a coincidence. They blame, only partly tongue in cheek, Roger Stone.

Their thesis is that someone sympathetic to DJT is going out, digging up dirt on these folk's past and releasing it to bring them down.

    The podcast is here: http://adam.curry.com/html/NoAgendaEpisode1029B-jt1fp3vR98GFcGwh6v45dqqFwnSxJm.html

Start at about 2hrs 33 min for their thesis that that are calling the T3 list.

Though we shall never see it . . .

My suggestion for the WHCD would be a comedian who, instead of roasting the President, roasted the press!

How “delicious” would that dinner be?
