Michael Avenatti, 58th inductee into the Trump Effect Hall of Shame

Michael Avenatti has had a busy spring as he rides the Fake News Rocket to the stars.

"Stormy Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti recently achieved status as a Permanent Guest on CNN. He’s appeared on one of its shows more than 60 times in the two months since filing the lawsuit to invalidate the nondisclosure agreement the adult-film actress entered into with Donald Trump," Jake Schafer of Politico wrote on Wednesday.

"Go ahead and joke about TV’s bright lights sunburning his bald head all the way to skin cancer. Avenatti won’t mind. All the world is his court and all the men and women in it merely jurors. Appearing on 'Anderson Cooper 360°' on Tuesday night, where he was as poised as a fat cat taking a limousine to the airport, he explained his method."

The explanation from Avenatti was, "There’s been some criticism about our media strategy and how often I’ve been on CNN and how often I’ve been on your show and other networks. Here’s the bottom line, Anderson. It’s working. OK? It’s working in spades. And one of the reasons, and one of the ways that it’s working, is because we’re so out front on this, people send us information. People want to help our cause. People contact us with information."

Yes, because it is so hard to find anyone in this country to criticize the president. /end sarcasm.

He told Cooper in March, "The president may be able to fire Mueller, but he can’t fire me or my client, and we’re not going anywhere."

Oh really?

Mark Penn served as pollster and adviser to President Clinton from 1995 to 2000, including during his impeachment.

Penn called Avenatti out on Thursday in a column, "Who is paying Michael Avenatti?"

He cited Avenatti's use of bank records to discredit Michael Cohen, the president's lawyer.

"The more you peel back the onion, the more Cohen and Avenatti seem alike. Both are fixers who bend every rule they can get away with. Fairly or unfairly, Cohen is being put under the microscope and we can rest assured that every payment in or out will be fully scrutinized by law enforcement. But Avenatti can’t be given a pass on these issues. Americans are entitled to know just who this guy is, who is writing his checks and whether he legally obtained his information," Penn wrote.

Generally, we frown on breaking the law to reveal information about a rival lawyer.

"When Stormy Daniels’ lawyer released a dossier on corporate payments allegedly made to President Trump’s personal attorney after the election, many observers questioned how he got access to the confidential bank records," Kate Briquelet of the Daily Beast wrote.

"The porn star’s counsel, Michael Avenatti, has declined to reveal where he received his intel on the financial transactions of Michael Cohen’s shell company. The company, Essential Consultants, was also used to wire Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her silence on her alleged Lake Tahoe romp with Trump in 2006."

Gerald W. Kelly, a Maryland-based tax attorney, told Briquelet: "Someone is feeding Stormy Daniels’ attorney information that they shouldn’t be. There’s no exception for it in the regulation."

I wonder who that someone (cough) Deep State (cough) could be.

Then there is his coffee bill.

"Avenatti purchased Tully's out of bankruptcy in 2013, in partnership with actor Patrick Dempsey, who is best known for his role as Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd in the TV show 'Grey's Anatomy.' Dempsey sued Avenatti in August 2013 to break off the partnership," Business Insider reported.

"Since then Tully's has struggled. More than 45 suits have been filed against the chain's parent company, which Avenatti says he no longer owns. In 2017, the company owed about $5 million in unpaid taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. And in March the coffee chain abruptly closed all locations."

He is a poor businessman, but somehow he manages to have time to fly around and appear on CNN night after night. Maybe the network is paying him.

Over at Zero Hedge, they are playing hardball, saying Avenatti may face disbarment.

And it turns out the facts Avenatti feeds CNN are wrong. Well, it is a Fake News network, after all.

"Next there's the question of who exactly leaked Trump attorney Michael Cohen's bank records - and the records of two unrelated men named Michael Cohen who Avenatti wrongly accused of.  Yesterday we reported that the US Treasury launched a probe into the leak, as Avenatti refuses to disclose his source," Zero Hedge reported.

The site pretty much summed up the situation in its lead paragraph, "After appearing on CNN 59 times to claim the moral high ground over President Trump's alleged decade-old affair with Daniels, skeletons in Avenatti's closet are now beginning to pour out."

Feuding with Donald John Trump is a quick way to ruin your life. Ask Rosie O'Donnell. Ask Bill Cosby. And now, ask Michael Avenatti.

  3. Cohen's Oligarch funded slush fund is showing. I thought this porn star business was all fake news. Not so fake after Giuliani's expert legal representation. So stellar in fact his law firm decided it best to "part ways". Of course Mueller's been down this path 1/2 a year ago--with Novartis & AT&T already being questioned. Avenatti should be the least of your worries.

CNN’s ratings have gone down like a lead pipe in water. Wonder if they have lined up their next scandal to chase.

  6. Avenatti may be forced to reveal his source or go to jail for contempt. Unlike a journalist, he is not protected by any shield law and can be forced by the courts to tell the Treasury Department how he got the bank records. Bad businessman, bad lawyer.
