Jim Carrey joins the Trump Effect Hall of Shame

"What has happened to Jim Carrey? Once a revered comedian with a big fan base, Carrey hasn’t made a good movie in 10 years, and the ones he’s in have been box-office bombs," Rex Reed wrote.

The short answer is Donald Trump. Carrey foolishly began a one-sided feud with President Trump. Not only did Carrey fail to attract Trump's attention, but he lost what little audience he had left.

A decade ago, Carrey became another comic who began to take himself too seriously.

He had an affair with Jenny McCarthy, which led to his joining the anti-vaccination crowd.

But with Trump's election, Carrey went over the edge, taking what was left of his career with him.

"The comedian has been channeling his artistic side over the last year by painting a series of political portraits mocking Trump, his administration and a cast of Republican lawmakers," CNN reported last year.

"His latest creation is a colorful portrait of a screaming Trump in a bathrobe eating two scoops of ice cream, which Carrey jokingly pitched to the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, which houses portraits of all former US presidents."

Now, I followed Carrey's career beginning with "The Duck Factory," which was a terrible waste of his talent, as he played a straight man. On "In Living Color," he stole the show week-in and week-out. Then he did some movies, made piles of money, and started getting weird. I stopped paying attention.

Many people did.

"Now he’s turned to drama, and like an army of funny men who tried it before, hoping for new respect as a serious actor from both critics and audiences, he is advised to brace himself. I admire Carrey for taking on a grim and sobering project made in Krakow, Poland, that requires a range he would never be asked to show in any American sitcom, but 'Dark Crimes' is so lurid, irrelevant and unwatchable it makes you wonder if he ever read the script," Reed wrote.

The dark crimes in the movie are men abusing women sexually.

He plays a cop who becomes obsessed with videos of this stuff.

"Finally, his wife serves his fried eggs during images of women chained and crawling on all fours like animals and asks, 'Do we have to listen to this over breakfast?'" Reed wrote.

Hahaha. That may be the funniest scene Carrey has been in for a while.

"'Dark Crimes' backfires like a meal of refried beans, but you gotta give Carrey credit. He plays it with the poker-faced seriousness of a Death Row inmate awaiting execution," Reed wrote.

Ouch.

Once again, someone feuded with The Donald. Once again, someone's worse for the ordeal.

  1. I never liked him and with his early movies, I couldn’t make it past 15 minutes. Gave up trying to watch after movie 3. Welcome to the club, loser.

  2. As a Canadian - it was great that he "made-it" in the U.S but apart from his early impersonations I never liked his movies that much (except Mask?). The rest were poor to mediocre. Since then he has became an embarrassment - and an immigrant (despite his U.S citizenship) should not be lecturing America on her duly-elected President. Nor should c-list actors.

  4. I gotta admit, Big D, Dumb and Dumber is one of my all time favorite movies. “So you’re telling me I’ve got a chance!” Yeah, he was damn funny back in the day. But, he went and messed with The Kid (Mr. T). One failed relationship after another, and one bomb after another. If I cared, which I actually don’t, I would do my best to get the guy completely out of the life he’s in now, because he’s gonna kill himself within the next year otherwise.

  5. His schtick got old, happens all the time and he waited too long to do other stuff.

  6. Didn't he kill his girlfriend or something? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the only movie I have ever walked out on.

  7. Messing with President Trump does not cause them to fail, it is merely the signal that they have lost their mind and are in need of care. Kinda like a drunk who has had too many but has a few more lined up, just wait to see him stagger to the door.
Carrey is not my kind of funny. Never cared for his movies, and his version of art is an aversion or a perversion.

  9. Carrey hasn't done anything relevant in over a decade and it was sort of slapstick at best. He wanted to be like "Hogg Boy" and get in the spotlight one more time but by now no one cares. His talent was never painting I have a 5 year old that has more skill his acting is pretty bad as well.
I guess one last charge to get your name in the news was all he has left.

  10. Jim Carrey has been, is, and will be mentally ill. Some funny stuff here and there, but lots of crap as well. Like most movies, his are about double the length they ought to be. Know when to say when. When he portrays a crazy person, he is not acting.
