Senator EpiPen meets Mister EpiPen

My West Virginia Feed is off to a great start. Those interested in state politics should sign up for it at WVFeed@GMail.com because this will make sure you get every post (and hours before it is on the blog). Also, send me news tips.

Here is the latest installment.
RollCall did a story on Pepperoni Roll Chic -- starring EpiPen Joe. Reporter Jason Dick missed the big story. A fellow dressed in an EpiPen costume greeted Gayle and Joe Manchin at the nearly empty Washington bistro that serves this delicacy from the coalfields of Northern West Virginia.

For my blog readers, it is a roll with cheese and pepperoni in the middle, which coalminers eat in the northern coalfields. I'm told it is not particularly popular south of Route 60, which roughly divides the north and south.

"Many displaced West Virginians in the nation’s capital have long relied on intermittent fixes, courtesy of friends or relatives visiting and remembering to bring back some back-home comfort food from the likes of the Country Club Bakery in Fairmont, where the savory snack is said to have originated in the 1920s; Tomaro’s Bakery in Clarksburg’s Glen Elk neighborhood; Abruzzino’s in Gypsy or any neighborhood Go Mart," Dick wrote.

Nice little feature story.

But the real story was the debut of Mister EpiPen, another northern West Virginia delicacy that legal drug-maker Mylan N.V. produces. The name is short for epinephrine autoinjector, which is an emergency treatment for anaphylactic reaction.

As a state senator, Manchin got his daughter, Heather Manchin Bresch, a job at Mylan. As governor, he got her a fake MBA to facilitate her promotion to CEO. As senator, he has defended Mylan's proven price-gouging for EpiPens.

One month before the 2016 election, Mylan agreed to a $465 million federal fine for price-gouging.

As a side note, his wife (and Heather's mother), Gayle pushed schools to buy these as head of the national school board association.

In a rare display of common sense, the state Republican Party apparently will go after Joe for this.

How well it works is up to the voters, as it should be.

  2. What Crapulent Senator has a daughter in Big Pharma pushing Narcan free for everybody?
Addicts can get the greatest high, stop breathing, get a shot and do it again and again. Somebody's pocket is being lined.
And I hope Joe Manchin loses his election because he is full of shit, will always do what he is told. No Stand Joe is what I call him.
