Will Kim Jong Un return from China?

Bloomberg News broke what could be the story of the year: "Kim Jong Un made a surprise visit to Beijing on his first known trip outside North Korea since taking power in 2011, three people with knowledge of the visit said."

The question is will he return?

His attempted reconciliation with South Korea (as well as seismic charts from October) indicate that his nuclear program is over, and he has no nukes.

The best case scenario for everyone is for Kim Jong Un to seek asylum in China and live off the billions he has acquired through bribery. This is the Idi Amin solution. Saudi Arabia took him in after he finished cannibalizing Uganda.

But that is a fantasy for now.

"The unannounced visit is the latest in series of diplomatic power plays in Asia as U.S. President Donald Trump’s battle to lower the U.S.’s trade deficit becomes entangled with his effort to get Kim to give up his nuclear weapons. Chinese President Xi Jinping has found himself preparing for a trade war with Trump even after supporting progressive rounds of United Nations sanctions against the Kim regime," Bloomberg reported.

The State Department deferred questions to China.

I have a feeling President Trump knows what is going on.

Donald Trump inherited from the inept, incompetent, and overrated Barack Obama a North Korea with nukes and intercontinental ballistic missiles. Less than two years in, Kim Jong Un may be shopping for a palatial estate near Beijing.

That is my hope.

We shall see.

  1. Wouldn't it be nice of the reunification of Korea went as smoothly and peacefully as the reunification of Germany?

    1. Well, I might have agreed with you if West Germany hadn't been so ridiculously foolish as to allow the stasi-queen merkle to take control of an otherwise prosperous self identifying country that was doing just fine without her.

One might want to consider calling it Stalin's long reach from the grave.

  2. Now what have we been taught about headlines that end in a question-mark? ;)

He could just be checking into the Beijing Commie day spa for a seaweed wrap.

  3. That would be a helluva one-in-a-million deal: China solves the "Korea problem" and in return Trump lowers the trade barriers and tariffs. It's Win-Win-Win. Fantasies sometimes come true, at least in the movies.

  6. I think it is a misconception that Kim's nuclear weapons are intended to counter the US. They actually are for defense against China.

It doesn't take much plutonium to make a Hiroshima style bomb. So I strongly suspect he has a stash of them - or he wouldn't be in China right now.

The fun question is does he has a nuke on the train with him?

  7. Where are The Ramones when we need them? This begs for a remake of Bonzo Goes To Bitburg. Fat Boy Goes To Beijing.

  11. Probably shopping for something new to wear for when he gets the Nobel Peace Prize. I'm sure him and Obama will share it this time around.
