Lefty admits it is anti-gun hysteria

"There Is No Epidemic of Mass School Shootings," read the headline in New York magazine.

Writer Eric Levitz could finally admit it is all an act. He was doing a victory lap over more gun restrictions. We have had gun control since 1968.

"Last October — just days after the worst mass shooting in American history — only 52 percent of Americans told CNN’s pollsters that they supported stricter gun laws," Levitz wrote.

"Today, that figure is 70 percent — the highest it’s been at any time since 1993. Recent polls from Quinnipiac University and Politico/Morning Consult have produced nearly identical results. In Florida, long a bastion of NRA support, the leftward turn in public opinion has been especially sharp."

It's about power.

The Fake News press finally is winning as it feeds a storyline that could have come from Stalin.

The press ignored the systemic failure of the government to stop a killer.

The FBI ignored tips.

The school system and the sheriff's office worked to not arrest or even suspend delinquents, in an effort to hide racial discrepancies in crime and misbehavior among students.

The Obama administration praised this.

Finally, the sheriff ordered his deputies to stand down, as if he were the mayor of Baltimore.

They even blocked paramedics.

Instead of blaming government, the media selected the National Rifle Association as the whipping boy for Obama, Sheriff Scott Israel, and Broward County Schools superintendent Robert Runcie.

Nationally, school crime rates have fallen in the past 25 years, Levitz said.

"American children do not risk their lives when they show up to school each morning — or at least, not nearly as much as they do whenever they ride in a car, swim in a pool, or put food in their mouths (an American’s lifetime odds of dying in a mass shooting committed in any location is 1 in 11,125; of dying in a car accident is 1 and 491; of drowning is 1 in 1,133; and of choking on food is 1 in 3,461). Criminal victimization in American schools has collapsed in tandem with the overall crime rate, leaving U.S. classrooms safer today than at any time in recent memory," he wrote.

This is not about saving lives.

This is about expanding power -- and CYA.

The media chose to go to war with Donald John Trump in 2017 rather than accept him as president.

The media chose poorly.

From Leslie Eastman's review at Legal Insurrection:
Surber, a recovering journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been cataloging the #FakeNews that has been regularly offered as serious analysis of President Donald Trump’s actions, policies, and opinions. He has brought his enormous collection together in the longest, most serious book he has yet written: Fake News Follies of 2017.
Fake News Follies of 2017 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at DonSurber@GMail.com for details. I am including a "director's cut." I will give you the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the Fake News Follies of 2017.

If anyone believes this I have an old Mandarin named Clinton to offer up for sale.

Fact: There are more bunged up AR magazines scattered along the side of the road than McDonalds coffee cups and Happy Meal wrappers.

  2. NFA, 1934. Special Class III license required for possession of full-auto weapons. To fight organized crime (uh, sure).

    2. My memory vaguely insists that automatic weapons were banned shortly after WWII when the soldiers were returning with their weapons.

    3. That's right, we've had "gun control" since 1934.

The National Firarms Act of 1934, signed into law by FDR, who admired fascism and who also planned to stack the Supreme Court until he got his way on his New Deal legislation.

Obama is a piker in many ways, and he didn't do nearly as much damage to the USA as FDR (though he tried hard,) whose name should live in infamy forever.

  4. Crime rates have fallen in the last 25 years? What happened to the false “American carnage” narrative the Trump was selling? Trump’s message—much like the weather—if you don’t like it just wait around. Did ya hear Cap’n Spray Tans latest positions on guns?

    1. I hope his latest position isn't like Obama who said:
"I like taking guns away early. Take the guns first, go through due process second."

    2. Obama made Trump say that on Wednesday. It was really George Soros' fault.

    3. Hey, bigot: I've read Cap'n Spray Tan actually suffers from Rosacea and that's why his skin tone sometimes appears odd.
Stop trashing people for medical conditions.

    4. Well, actually, they may not, after the DOJ got lots of "consent decrees" with places like Chicago not to arrest minorities for the crimes they commit rather than under a quota. You know, the same policy that worked so well in Broward.

  5. I wish everyone would quit yammering about gun control, the guns aren't going anywhere, and all it does is drive the prices up for me. Good for the gun stores, I guess, though.

  6. I beg to differ on one point. We don't know if school crimes (or criminals) have increased in the prior 8 years of the Obama Administration due to the "Promise" program, which paid government money out to schools and law enforcement that refused to report criminal or irrationally threatening behavior in under 18 students. We will have to search through the weeds to get the correct answer on that. I speak as an NRA member and a gun owner.
