Football player feels the Trump Effect

Never bet against Donald John Trump.

Never get in a feud with him.

Bad things happen to people who do, as NFL defensive end Michael Bennett is discovering.

Back in September when the NFL defied the president and actually encouraged players to dishonor the flag, Bennett went on CNN to decry the president.

"I just couldn't fathom that would come from the leader of America. At the same time, I knew that it would be something that would unite us as players," Bennett said.

So what happened?

Three months later, there was this,"Michael Bennett is Seahawks nominee for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award."

And 16 days ago, there was this, "Michael Bennett trade gives the Eagles the NFL's scariest defensive line."

Wow, he was nominated for a top award and traded to the NFL's defending champions.

Looks like Surber was wrong.

Right?

"Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett was indicted Friday by a Harris County, Texas grand jury for felony charge of injury of the elderly for an incident at Super Bowl LI," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

"A warrant has been issued for Bennett’s arrest and prosecutors are working with Bennett’s counsel regarding his surrender, according to Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.

"Bennett was accused of injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic who was securing the field at Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in February 2017. Bennett, who was then a member of the Seattle Seahawks, attended the game to watch his brother, Martellus, who played for the New England Patriots."

Um, when was Walter Payton accused of assaulting a 66-year-old paraplegic?

"The charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine," the newspaper reported.

Maybe the Texas prison system has a league, like in "The Longest Yard."

Bennett now joins 46 other fools who fought The Donald and lost.

  1. Bennett’s claim that he was assaulted by Honolulu police was also thrown out. A few years ago he was one of Seattle’s most admired players. Now, not so much.

  2. If this criminal charge sticks, you can stick a fork in him. He'll be done.

  4. Sorry, but I think Bennett is being way overcharged in this case. Judging by the skimpy details the newspaper offered regarding the incident, I'd say the people who thought it would be PC-terrifc to hire a 66 y/o paraplegic woman to act as part of the security detail were out of their cotton picking minds. So after the Patriots won the game, Bennett (like a whole bunch of other people in the crowd) wanted to get onto the field to celebrate the Patriot's victory with his brother, Martellus, who played in the game as a Patriot player. The security detail, including the aged woman, tried to hold the crowd back and got pushed, and she was apparently injured in the fall. While the newspaper account is incomplete, nothing in it suggests this was a vicious assault; from all appearances it was just an accident, maybe one that may have been driven by more than one glass of alcohol, but still, likely not a case of thuggery.

    1. I'm sure the grand jury was privy too a lot more info than yourself. And as far as Bennett goes he is the biggest ass there ever was.the bench sitter. Why do you think they traded him.I used to be a life long Seahawks fan. When they started being political and stopped playing football, that was the end for me and the NFL in general.

    2. The only reason this is a felony with a long jail term attached instead of a trivial misdemeanor (which I bet would ultimately be dropped) is because the female "security worker" who was pushed and then fell down, spraining her shoulder, is over the age of 65. If it were not for her age, the charge would be a misdemeanor at best. Bennett may be a jerk, as you claim, but the prosecutor is a vindictive jerk for overcharging him. And the people who hired a 66 y/o paraplegic woman to work security to do crowd control at the biggest live sports event of the year are idiotic jerks. What were they thinking when they did that?

  5. Bennett also had an incident in Las Vegas where he was running during an incident after the McGregor/Merriweather fight. He was somewhere where gun shots were fired. Police told people to stay down. Bennett ran and was arrested. He claimed racism. Not me was proven of course. He is a SJW who is getting what is coming to him.

    1. And they had almost the entire incident on tape (being Vegas), and then the officers he said were racist were both minorities. What a pig. His ass never answered for any of it after it was found out he was lying: that's modern journalism for you (the most journalism done on his story was the Clay Travis Outkick the Coverage radio show where he broke it all down; I guess it takes an ex-lawyer sports talker to do all the journalism these days).
