Obama's four words are killing politics

Before he went loony left after suffering Trumpophobia, George Will framed the problem with politics in four words when in 2014 he said on Fox News, "'The debate is over' is something of a mantra. The debate is over on climate change; everyone, be quiet. The debate is over about early childhood education; everyone, be quiet. Lots of things are supposedly over, and you hear that from people who are finding the evidence inconvenient."

The debate is over was a favorite phrase of Barack Obama, who believed his every pronouncement was a dropped mic moment.

My favorite Obama Dropped Mic Moment came just before the election when on Jimmy Kimmel's little hour, Obama taunted Donald Trump and said, "At least I will go down as a president."

Hahaha.

If you every are feeling blue, remember that moment.

But less amusing is the poisoning of politics, which is the art of the compromise.

Sadly, liberals decided compromise is wrong.

They say the debate is over on abortion on demand, affirmative action, food stamps, gay marriage, global warming, gun control, health insurance, open borders, trade policy, and now, transgenderism.

They assert something is true, declare the debate is over, and get ferocious if anyone dares point out that a fetus is a human life, or carbon dioxide is a nutrient vital to all life on the planet, or childhood obesity is epidemic among food stamp recipients, et cetera, et cetera.

We cannot discuss these issues, and anyone who does is racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and the whole basket of deplorables.

Anyone who questions the assumption is immoral. UnAmerican. A Nazi. A klansman.

When you make every government program a moral issue, you make it impossible to compromise, and without compromise you fundamentally transform America into a very brutal and ugly nation.

Take food stamps. It is a 56-year-old program in need of reform. The no-God-in-government crowd hypocritically says you are not Christian if you dare question it.

But Jesus didn't demand the Romans feed the hungry. He took a couple of fish and five loaves of bread and fed thousands.

The poor will always be with ye -- for a reason.

But when man turns his back on God, government becomes the object of worship. Check out our state capitol in West Virginia. It is like a cathedral to government.

Conservatives do this as well. George Will went off the deep end over Trump and left the conservative movement citing an unwillingness to compromise his principles.

Of course, President Trump has pushed the conservative agenda better than any president since Reagan.

Will and the rest of the Never Trump crowd are more concerned about style than substance. Superficiality is not just for fifteen-year-old girls.

The debate is not over.

The debate is never over.

The United Negro College Fund's slogan is a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I would add a closed mind is even worse.

The media chose to go to war with Donald John Trump in 2017 rather than accept him as president.

The media chose poorly.

From Leslie Eastman's review at Legal Insurrection:
Surber, a recovering journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been cataloging the #FakeNews that has been regularly offered as serious analysis of President Donald Trump’s actions, policies, and opinions. He has brought his enormous collection together in the longest, most serious book he has yet written: Fake News Follies of 2017.
Fake News Follies of 2017 is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at DonSurber@GMail.com for details. I am including a "director's cut." I will give you the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the Fake News Follies of 2017.

  1. Perfectly on target. It is no longer acceptable to have non standard opinions.
We think they're wrong, they think we're evil.

  3. Just a note, Don - the morning host Brian Sussman, on radio KSFO in San Francisco was listing some of the best examples of your "Trump Effect" list of losers. He COULD have given attribution instead of just saying "A blogger".

But at least a few people in the "Largest open-air nuthouse in the World" (S.F.) heard.

    1. Even in CA probably 40% of the people voted for Trump. And probably 30% in the SF Bay Urea. So as you walk the streets here in NorCal keep in mind that 1 or 3 people you see are secretly Deplorable like the rest of us!

  5. Don, sometimes you remind me of a charmingly sweet yet gullible unknowing little old lady! Most of these people are hiding behind their "principles" because they are being paid well to do so. Sundance at the Treehouse has said it well... there are billions and billions of dollars worldwide at stake. You might try doing a little journalism and start digging into who pays these people. Then look behind them to see who pays THEM! Who gives them loans for their houses, who keeps funding their business models. This is nonsense that they are principled conservatives. They are mercenaries. cdm.

    1. Don handles his angle and quite well. If he was doing the same stuff as Sundance, one of them would be irrelevant. Both are good, and I read both every day.

  6. The debate is over on George Will. He is a never-reader for me.

Excellent points in this post. Love the last line. But then again, I am an immoral. UnAmerican. A Nazi. A klansman. A knuckle dragger. And deplorable.

  7. Big D, you're on fire, man. This post is classic. Soetero Double Down. Do something outrageous, even unconstitutional, and then beat people over the rhetorically if anyone dares to challenge you. Been there, felt that. No longer. No one but Mr. T could strike back at the current state of affairs right now. God bless him, and God damn his enemies.

  8. I agree Solitude! With over $4 Trillion at stake every year and little accountability; then add to that how far off the deep end CNN has become, I'm convinced that CNN is getting paid by the deep state and no one even is aware of it!

  9. Both sides have their snooty elitists, but the ones on the right are butthurt because they aren't in charge anymore. It's a bummer belonging to an exclusive club that nobody wants to join.

  14. To be fair, Liberals have NEVER believed in compromise.

Their definition of the word is, and always has been: "We get 90% of what we want, you get nothing".

They think, if they don't get 100% of what they wanted, that they've compromised. And, they'll never give the other side even a morsel.

R's, being the Stupid Party, have played into this for decades.

Instead of asking for the moon, and then compromising for something they can accept, they pre-emptively surrender - acknowledge defeat and ask only for the minimum that they might possibly settle for. Then, when the D's won't even give them that, they will vote in favor of a bill that gives the D's 90% of what they want while getting precisely nothing in return.

  15. "Of course, President Trump has pushed the conservative agenda better than any president since Reagan."
Some day Surby you will quit insulting Reagan, who as I recall led his conservative agenda by three primary principals: fiscal prudence, strong military and family values.
Aside from talking a good military game, Trump is not fiscally prudent and don't even try to associate Reagan's family values with Trump who makes Slick Willie look like a monk. But I'm sure Trump's promised lawsuits against each of the 16 women who have accused him of sexual harassment will exonerate him ... once his top lawyer is done paying off porn stars.

All he'll need is their financial records to see how many got bribed by the DNC donors Lisa Bloom solicited.

    2. For "fiscal prudence," you need a Congress that values it. Our Uniparty doesn't, they value pork a lot more. President Trump still has managed to save billions; he'll do better once we trim some RINOs out of the GOP.

As to the pop tarts, they were threatening Trump with their phony accusations, until he told them to sue him or shut up; now they're quiet as the Dem cockroaches that put them up to it.

That's how to get rid of cockroaches- you shine a bright light on 'em, and they scurry back to their holes!
