Sloppy Steve loses Breitbart

If only he had kept his big, fat mouth shut, Steve Bannon could have had the world on a string even as he departed the White House.

But no, he had to be a big shot, didn't he?

He had to be the star of Michael Wolff's new book on President Trump, and so Bannon talked and talked and talked and talked.

And he talked his way out of his gig as executive chairman of Breitbart News.

For a man who thought of himself as a super-duper political strategist, Bannon sure is dumb. He forgot Rule Number One:
Blood is thicker than water.
From Reuters on January 6:
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon called a June 2016 meeting with a group of Russians attended by Donald Trump Jr. and his father’s top campaign officials “treasonous” and “unpatriotic,” according to excerpts of a new book seen by Reuters on Wednesday.
The explosive comments from a former close aide and far-right architect of Donald Trump’s November 2016 election victory roiled the White House and the Republican president, who famously values loyalty in associates and employees. Trump fired Bannon from his White House post in August and split with him on Wednesday in a highly personal public repudiation.
“Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” Trump said in a statement hours after Bannon’s comments emerged.
In the book, Bannon expressed derision and astonishment over the meeting at Trump Tower in New York in which a Russian lawyer was said to be offering damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, according to the book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” by Michael Wolff.
Bannon also was quoted as saying he was sure Trump Jr. would have taken the Russians who took part in the meeting to meet his father in Trump Tower. Trump Jr. arranged the meeting and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, also attended.
Now then, maybe Bannon was taken out of context, or maybe he thought he was going after Manafort, or maybe he thought it was no big deal.

That does not matter.

Bannon took on the president of the United States -- a man more than 62 million people voted for despite the public shame in doing so (at least among the establishment in Washington).

As Jay Leno asked of Hugh Grant, "What the hell were you thinking?"

Many of us dumped Breitbart News. If I want to follow a news organization with a liar and back-stabber running it, I will switch to Jeff Zucker's CNN.

Today, Breitbart News decided to dump Bannon and save its good name.

From Melissa Quinn at the Washington Examiner:
Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News, is stepping down from the news organization, the news outlet confirmed Tuesday.
The change comes days after conservative megadonor Rebekah Mercer cut ties with Bannon after a new tell-all about the Trump White House revealed he made unflattering comments about the president and his family.
Mercer holds a minority stake in Breitbart.
Breitbart confirmed Bannon stepped down in a statement on their website and said he would assist with a "smooth and orderly transition."

  1. Bannon did not apologise for remarks about Ivanka, and notice he did not say anything nice about her. Ivanka whatever you may think of her policies, was pregnant and had a baby during the campaign, yet still went out and campaigned for her Dad and has stuck by him even as she took lots of abuse from Breitbart (ie Bannon). Bannon might have got away with feuding with Jarrod, but to be constantly ridiculing and criticizing Ivanka was the height of stupidity and it was a wonder that Pres Trump let it go on as long as he did. Then there was the rewriting of history that Bannon was the brains behind Trump. However, it was the electoral meddling that finished Bannon off as well as the association of treason of Don Jnr. cdm

    1. Well said.

For a long time, with Bannon at its helm, Breitbart News has demonized Ivanka and Jarrod, even to the point of coining the disparaging term "Javanka."

Now I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Trump supporter, but I do notice that Ivanka & her husband often press for things that I don't like or approve of. Just lately there's the kind words Ivanka said about Oprah's speech at the Golden Globes; it would have pleased me much more if she'd kept her pretty mouth firmly shut, and had kept her thoughts to herself. Still, she's President Trump's daughter and she has the right to say whatever she wants.

That doesn't mean that I'll take kindly to a news outlet that apparently wants to ban her from speaking, or drive her out of her father's arms, or whatever it is that they thought they were doing with their constant drumbeat of "Javanka bad!"

I miss Andrew Breitbart every day. Fearless warriors armed with the truth are few, and his loss was a great disaster to us all. Steve Bannon was always a mosquito trying to be an eagle but he never had what it takes, and I hope that with his departure Breitbart News can get back on track!

  2. Take a hard look at Bannon. He looks like a hard core alcoholic. If so, how in the world could he be trusted?

    1. late stage, too like Hillary...

    2. Bannon looks like a 63 year old Irishman, which he is.

  3. Mr Surber, Sir. Your 'The List Of Losers Who Feuded With The Donald:' Is looking more and more like George Carlin's list of 'The Seven Words You Can't Say On Radio and Television"
It started at seven and ended up as a scroll that rolled off the stage into the audience. This Daytime Soap Opera that is Politics is keeping popcorn companies in business.

  4. Being the turd in the punch bowl is no way to go thru life, kid.

  5. Sometime last month there were a few days on Brietbart News when there were a bunch of headlines about Bannon this and Bannon that. It seemed like Bannon was trying to turn Breitbart into his own vanity press.

  6. I never heard of Steve Bannon until Trump hired him. I have never read anything written by him or listened to him speak. I am not sure what, if anything, he did for Trump besides piss off the media by existing. He is certainly no Andrew Breitbart. He looks like a skid row drunk.

  7. Interesting that the flood of leaks from the White House seems to have dissipated with the firing of Bannon and Priebus.
