Proof they are s***hole countries

Citing two people who were not at the meeting, the Washington Post reported that President Trump decried immigration from s***hole countries. The Fake News press reported this as gospel last night. This morning the president denied calling them s***hole countries.

But this does not mean they are not s***hole countries. Many countries have open defecation. Chief among them are India, where 48% of the people defecate in the open.

The sanitation problems are a reason many people are working to bring indoor plumbing (or even outhouses) to these backward places.

The Research Institute for Compassionate Economics talks about the "sanitation ladder," in which as people emerge economically, they improve their sanitary skills. Of course, the poor in most of the world do not take dumps in the middle of the road. This seems limited to Africa and India.

If you live in one of those "open defecation nations," I can see why you would want to leave. The smell alone...

From the Research Institute for Compassionate Economics:
The good news, as many of you are probably aware, is that open defecation is on its way out in most of the world. About 14% of the world defecates in the open. This statistic masks vast differences between countries, however: almost no one defecates in the open in China, while in neighboring India, about 48% of the total population defecates in the open.
Indeed, open defecation is increasingly concentrated in India, and some very poor conflict-torn countries, such as South Sudan and Chad. Most very poor countries, such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Congo, have reduced open defecation, and moved up the “sanitation ladder” – a term used by sanitation professionals to describe the various rungs of a ladder, from the most unhygienic open defecation to the most hygienic “improved sanitation“. Most of the people in these poor countries still don’t have “improved sanitation,” but they have moved up the “sanitation ladder” and are well on their way to eliminate open defecation.
India stands out in this comparison. It is not as poor as sub-Saharan countries, but is worse than most of them. Only a handful of countries in the world have worse open defecation than India. Part of the reason is that whereas people in the rest of the world are happy to move to kachha unimproved or shared latrines, the “sanitation ladder” in India is mostly absent.
The idea that all countries are equal is absurd.

There is no excuse for being a s***hole country.

Sanitation is not that expensive. New York City hired men to manually clean the garbage and horse droppings from the streets in the 19th century to quell the rise and spread of communicable diseases.

Indeed, the Research Institute for Compassionate Economics noted:
India has more than 200 people per square kilometer defecating in the open. No other country in the world has a higher number of people defecating in the open per square kilometer. In fact, India has the most open defecation per square kilometer by a long long margin: the countries which have the second and the third most number of people defecating are Haiti and Nepal, which have 79 and 77 people defecating in the open per square kilometer. Bangladesh, Pakistan, all of sub-Saharan Africa, every place on the planet, is much better than India.
Neither population nor poverty can be blamed for the situation that India is in. Bangladesh, which has a much higher population density than India and is way poorer, or China, which has a larger population, are much, much better than India when it comes to sanitation.
India has nuclear power and nuclear weapons. It has chosen to live like this.

If nearly half the people in your land take a dump in public, you meet the description of s***hole country.

Perhaps we should expect visitors from your land to wash their hands before they enter America.

  1. Well, sanitary plumbing requires a certain level of intelligence. You see, after you have the Plumbing, then you have to take care of it. You know, don't try to literally flush a towel down the toilet.

Trump, as usual, is right on the money.

  2. Do they use TP after? Big D, this is disgusting journalism, and I'm going to call Dick Durbin (before he dicks you) and demand that he sentence you to a month of reeducation camp.

Everybody with a brain knows they are. This is not news to me. Waiting for Scott Adams' take. In the meantime, my wife and I gave for several years to Compassion International, helping to support a girl in Central America. I'll bet a lot of your readers have done the same. At this point, I could list a buncha other (church-related) stuff too, but God told me not to brag. Still, if you wanna make a difference, do it down on the ground. One soul at a time.

    3. I once challenged Dick Durbin that if it was 1830 I would duel him over his comment over our military's conduct at GITMO, but that he was too much of a coward to have accepted. I despise the man and his state deserves him. My son was in the Army, and still is, another son is retired Navy and I am a veteran. McCain lost my respect when he once said "my good friend Senator Durbin".

Those countries listed are disgusting. NYC and their open urine law is trending towards open dumping.

    1. And San Francisco and (IIRC) Boulder, CO are on that rather repulsive bandwagon, too. San Francisco allows open defecation IIRC and it's rarely mentioned.-- BJ54

  5. Don't know how true it is, but I've read that the exile Haitian community in Florida brought their bad hygiene habits with them and are a major problem for the health authorities there. Whoever craps in Haiti, should stay in Haiti. Talk about s@hole countries, even the Dominicans who share the same island with Haiti want little to do with them.

  7. Trump is a stable genius and a master communicator and negotiator. He plays the Leftist-Traitor-infested media like Horowitz played a Steinway. Anyone with half a brain and a smidgen of common sense and self-awareness would do anything to avoid stepping into the ring with PDJT; hell, I wouldn't play Rock'em Sock'em Robots with Baron and I used to box. The liberal media is proving to the country they are mentally unstable non-geniuses by the day and hour. Whether he said it or not, now not only is everyone wondering why we're importing hordes from shitholes, but Trump is making it safe to say what one thinks again; he's paving the road out of the shithole country known as "Political Correctness" and liberating an entire people (America) from its stench. Thank you God Emperor. God bless you and keep you and your family safe from the plots and machinations of The Enemy.

  12. Haiti and the DR share an island with roughly the same climate and natural resources. One is a shiitehole and the other, while far from wealthy, is clean, has relatively low crime, and has built a very successful tourism. I've stayed at a resort not far from the border between the two, and the DR is SERIOUS about keeping the Haitians on their side - they patrol with helicopters and dudes in body armor carrying automatic weapons.

It's the people that make a place a shiithole - or not.

    1. The Dominican Republic has its accomplishments as a country. However, it isn't low crime as we speak. The homicide rate is 25 per 100,000, 2.5x that of Haiti, 5x that of the United States, and 20x that of Britain.

Haiti has no accurate system of reporting. It may be as high as 120per100,000 people.
Chicago has 15.65 per 100,000 and we consider it a battle ground.

    3. Exactly. Some sources report the murder rate in the two as identical at about 25 per 100,000 population. The Haitian gubment is also one that routinely takes out political opponents. IMHO anyone who has been to both feels a hell of a lot safer on the the eastern side of the island.

  13. It's amusing that so many people in India have disgusting personal habits. That having been said, India in the last 70 years has seen circumscribed but real accomplishment.

    1. India remains poor (with late 19th century real income levels), but it is dynamic. See the near trebling of per capita income since 1990. (In part consequent to dismantling of many mercantile controls).

    2. Fairly generalized literacy. North of 70% of the total population has achieved basic literacy as has about 85% of the youth population (youth meaning persons between their 15th and 25th bday). As we speak, bilingualism is fairly common in India, with north of 10% of the population conversant in English (a facility which is modal among their professionals and managers).

    3. Improvements in life expectancy. Life expectancy at birth is now about 65 years in India, a figure not reached in the United States until around 1935.

    4. Fertility transition. # children per woman per lifetime now averages about 2.4, or about what it was in the U.S. ca. 1965, as people move into non-agricultural occupations and the survival of juveniles to adulthood improves.

    5. Political order. India has no history of military government and only two instances of generalized breakdown in the constitutional order since experimentation with electoral institutions began in 1909. The instances were during the partition in 1947-48 and during the state of emergency in 1975-77. There have been instances of violence on a regional scale (in the Punjab, in Assam, &c), of course. It's quite remarkable given how intramurally fissured the country is. It's political class still has a dynastic aspect, but this is much less pronounced than it was a generation ago.

    6. A sane foreign policy. India has stayed in its lane and hardly operated outside the subcontinent (except for some annoying public diplomacy). You could critique some policies (e.g. the long running fight over Kashmir and small territorial seizures). It has administered the stiff discipline to Pakistan that Pakistan has merited.

      Delete
    2. They have a caste system, but the process of economic development radically alters the distribution of employment between different sorts of occupation (for example, fewer than half the population are working in agriculture these days). It also induces migration from the countryside to towns. The influence of caste on occupation cannot be deterministic under those circumstances.

  15. Dick Durbin, yoh might recall, said the nastiest things about the United States Marine Corps during the Iraq war. Come a revolution, Durbin would be among the first into the basement to be asked, vigorously,to explain his anti-American actions and comments over the years. Teary denials would not be acceptable.
