News elders start realizing Trump broke the news media

Jimmy Carter was president when Chris Wallace arrived in Washington. Trump is his seventh president. At 70, Wallace can look back upon a pretty good career. They gave him another reward this weekend, and he gave them some truth.

Journalists in Washington are not doing it right.

From the Washington Examiner:
“If President Trump is trying to undermine the press for his own calculated reasons, when he talks about bias in the media — unfairness — I think he has a point,” Mr. Wallace told the crowd, citing melodramatic, alarmist headlines from The New York Times, CBS News, and CNN which suggested Mr. Trump and his administration were “divorced from reality” while Americans faced “an unimaginable scenario,” among other things.
“I’m sure some of you hear those comments and think they’re spot on. But ask yourself honestly. Do they belong on the front page of the paper, or as the lead of the evening news? Here’s what I think is going on. I believe some of our colleagues — many of our colleagues — think this president has gone so far over the line bashing the media it has given them an excuse to cross the line themselves. To push back. As tempting as that may be, I think it’s a big mistake. We are not players in the game. We are umpires — or observers — trying to be objective witnesses to what is going on. That doesn’t mean we’re stenographers. If the president or anyone we’re covering says something untrue or does something questionable, we can and should report it,” Mr. Wallace told his audience.
“But we shouldn’t be drawn into becoming players on the field, trying to match the people we cover in invective. It’s not our role. We’re not as good at it as they are. And we’re giving up our special place in our democracy. There’s enough to report about this president that we don’t need to offer opinions or put our thumb on the scale. Be as straight and accurate and dispassionate as we first learned to be as reporters,” observed the veteran newsman concluded.
“Thank you for letting me get some things off my chest,” Mr. Wallace added.
The media in Washington already was broken.

Barack Obama's presidency put a large crack in it. The media spent a decade from February 2007 -- when he announced he was running -- to the end of his presidency on January 20, 2017, virtue signaling.

The media brushed aside Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and a host of other scandals to get him elected, and then spent the election ridiculing Republicans who raised serious questions about the IRS, the VA, and Benghazi. Remember how the press treated women who said Bill Clinton molested them? That's how the press treated whistleblowers under Obama.

Well, now the press gets Trump -- and it has wasted the first year of his presidency (which for all intents and purposes began the day after his election) picking nits.

He goes on a whirlwind tour of Asia, gets China to commit to a quarter-trillion-dollar investment and what does the press dwell on?

How he fed koi fish. World exclusive. Only on CNN.

The public knows better.

We are seeing two giants wrestle near the end of the cliff, and maybe both go down in the end.

But by destroying President Trump -- a decent man with the best interests of America in his heart -- the news media destroys itself.

  2. I am sitting in a busy Honda waiting room. The crappy, left-wing local daily is sitting on the table, unopened. They made their bed.

    Yeah, yeah - so what?

The problem is, they will destroy the COUNTRY - and with it, the closest to "civilized" humanity has yet gotten.

  4. Chris Wallace is 70???? I had to wikipedia it to see that it was true. All politics aside, but, d*mn he looks good for 70. Of course, his father, whatever his numerous faults might have been, looked like he was in his early 40's when he was in his early 80's, so the Wallaces seem to be blessed with the "looking young" gene.

That said, re-watching the FoxNews election night 2016 coverage, when around 9:15PM EST, 6:15PM Pacific, Wallace said that he was "open to the possibility that Donald Trump might be the next president of the United States" -- one of the first on any of the networks to actually voice that thought -- remains one of the election night re-watching highlights. In other words, Wallace has been ahead of the curve, in front of his colleagues in the media, regarding POTUS-Trump, from the get-go.

  5. Wallace should first ask who started the bashing - the press or Trump? Then he should ask - was there any media or reporter including Wallace who gave even handed accounts of Trump and his supporters?

I switched to Fox Business because my favorite news show - Brett Baer - used the same left wing ad hominem bashing techniques against Trump that they hated used against themselves instead of discussing illegal immigration, over-regulation, lousy economy and Obama scandals.

  6. Objectivity is a rare and precious commodity today. The media does not help. In getting good data it's now every man for himself.

  8. Trump's not going down with the media. Either he destroys them and saves America or they and their leftist lackeys succeed in destroying America, but in either case it's about him being in their way. Destroying Trump is not their real goal; he's the barrier between them and their goal.

  9. The real miracle here was performed by Wallace's plastic surgeon.

  10. What a courageous man Trump must be to go to bat for America knowing full well in advance that the swamp would be out to kill him.America has finally elected a man "with a pair" and not before time.
