Hey! Pink Floyd! Leave them kids alone!

The anti-Semitism of Roger Waters of Pink Floyd caught up with him in Miami. Twelve teens who were supposed to be his chorus for his rendition of "Another Brick in the Wall" backed off from performing in his upcoming concert.

They cited his bigotry.

Waters earned the wrath of many people before the decision by the teens to pull out of the concert.

From the Miami Herald:
In 2013, the Anti-Defamation League criticized Waters’ “Jewish imagery” in his concerts, including a Star of David on a floating pig alongside “a dollar sign and a sickle and hammer.” In a Facebook post, Waters wrote that the star serves as Israel’s national symbol and saying his criticism was meant for policy, not religion.
“I am anti-war, anti-apartheid, anti-racist, pro human rights, pro peace and pro self-determination for all peoples,” Waters wrote. “I am not anti-Israel or anti-Semitic.”
A spokeswoman for the Miami Heat, which operates the arena, declined to comment Thursday. Miami-Dade owns the arena, and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation published a statement from Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
“I urge our Miami-Dade residents to uphold the values we hold dear and to reject anti-Semitism in all its forms,” Gimenez said in a statement that a spokesman said was provided to the Jewish Federation at the group’s request. “Not only because it would offend our Jewish residents, but because it would offend all Miamians.
I get that Waters says he is an artist trying to make a statement.

But if he wanted to be cutting edge, he would replace the Star of David with the star and crescent.

  1. Those poor downtrodden Palis...by the PA and Hamas. Refugees...since 1948, as the countries around Israel woudn't take them in. Jordan did, but later had to kick them out.

  2. He has problems with the policies of the state of Israel. What kind of imagery would be good for him to use that won't get him labeled as an antisemitic racist? It seems to me there is a catch-22 where this particular country is concerned. Perhaps they could work out some politically correct imagery for people to use that would be acceptable. I bet we end up waiting quite a while for that.

    1. I am a Muslim and I can understand how the imagery of the pig and the Star of David combined could be deemed offensive to persons of the Jewish persuasion or Isrealis.

    2. The only thing I can come up with on short notice is the circle with a bar across the Star Of David. I don't really think that would work.

    3. I wasn't endorsing the imagery involved. Merely asking for suggestions as to what might be used without the possibility of offering offense or self conviction of mind crimes, which are the worst thing imaginable and sure to get us on the greased rail to Hell.

    4. why not just feature the Israeli flag upside down?

  3. Don Surber, can you please answer Teapartydoc's question above?

You're falling into a leftist-style kafkatrap. You're making it impossible to criticize the ideas and policies of Jews and Israel, by conflating ideas with people. Disapprove of West Bank settlement policy? Antisemite! Please.

I say this as a guy who advocates the incorporation of all Palestinian Territories into Israel and no right of return for Palestinians. Is my disagreement with Israel's Syria policy antisemitic?

You need to stop this nonsense, Don.

    1. Jews, like Muslims, are prohibited from eating pork because it is unclean, according to their religion. The Star of David is their holiest symbol. Therefore, to impose one on the other is grievously offensive to Jews.

The right thing for Waters to do now that he knows he has offended their religion, he would drop the flag, etc., from his show. $5 says he keeps it.

  4. I think Israel needs to return to its 1967 borders. June 11, 1967. Or, maybe the post-Yom Kippur war borders.

    1. Should we give CA back to Mexico? Florida back to Spain? People like you remind me of Congress -- always giving away other people's stuff.

  5. Waters is living proof you don't have to be smart to write and perform great music. In fact, Waters is a flaming idiot.
