How Trump got the media to kill the Яussian meme

I woke up on Saturday morning to a flurry of Donald Trump tweets that stated Barack Obama during the campaign wiretapped President Trump. The final one said: "How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!"

This ought to be fun watching the media wreck itself.
And it was.

Whenever you see the Going Bonkers Edition of Trump, you know he is about to game the media, and win a political row.

In this case, Obama and his minions in the press have been saying nasty stuff about Trump being in bed with Russia. This included a tale of hiring hookers to pee in a bed Obama once slept in. As dumb as this Яussian meme was, Trump almost lost his attorney general over tghis.

So on Saturday, he tweeted: "Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!"

He offered no proof. Did not even cite the National Review article on which he based his claim. Likely the White House planted the story.

Then he sat back and watched the media publicize his claim while he golfed, dined with his lovely wife, and enjoyed the warmth of Palm Beach.

The Democratic Party sent the meme and their PR department went to work. By noon, the Democrats with bylines posted their first stories.

"Trump, citing no evidence, accuses Obama of ‘Nixon/Watergate’ plot to wiretap Trump Tower," the Washington Post said.

"Trump, Offering No Evidence, Says Obama Tapped His Phones," the New York Times said.

No proof. And over at Red State, they upped the ante to: "Presidential Trump Is Gone: Unhinged Trump Is Back Claiming Trump Tower Was Wiretapped."

Psychiatrists call it projection.

The second wave was of course Obama's side of the story -- which is sound journalism. The Associated Press led the way at 8:59 a.m. with, "Pres. Trump claims Obama had phones wiretapped; Obama denies it."

Good job. Two sides of the story. Plus it forced Obama (not foolish enough to be quoted directly) to give a version of the story.

I also filed something at 9 a.m. Saturday. It included:
President Trump offered no "proof," which should fake the Fake News media into jumping all over him. Then, when the Trump-is-crazy calls reach a peak, boom, out comes the proof that Obama indeed used the power of his office to spy on a political opponent.
And of course, that happened.

Seven weeks earlier.

Intercepted Russian Communications Part of Inquiry Into Trump Associates
WASHINGTON — American law enforcement and intelligence agencies are examining intercepted communications and financial transactions as part of a broad investigation into possible links between Russian officials and associates of President-elect Donald J. Trump, including his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, current and former senior American officials said.
And in Paragraph Six, there is this:
The F.B.I. is leading the investigations, aided by the National Security Agency, the C.I.A. and the Treasury Department’s financial crimes unit. The investigators have accelerated their efforts in recent weeks but have found no conclusive evidence of wrongdoing, the officials said. One official said intelligence reports based on some of the wiretapped communications had been provided to the White House.
So with one Google search, we have evidence that the FBI and counter-intelligence agencies wiretapped Trump's staff and gave transcripts from the wiretapping to the White House.

That is spying on an opposition party's presidential campaign.

Quickly, the press realized what it had done. It had leaped on a Trump trap. Down and down the press fell. So much so that by the time Chuck Todd interviewed proven perjurer James Clapper on "Meet the Press," the Obama-nauts were denying there was any link between Trump and the Russians.
CHUCK TODD: Let me ask you this. Does intelligence exist that can definitively answer the following question, whether there were improper contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian officials?
JAMES CLAPPER: We did not include any evidence in our report, and I say, “our,” that’s N.S.A., F.B.I. and C.I.A., with my office, the Director of National Intelligence, that had anything, that had any reflection of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians. There was no evidence of that included in our report.
Ha ha ha.

Suddenly the no proof shoe was on the other fellow's foot.

Todd tried again.
CHUCK TODD: I understand that. But does it exist?
JAMES CLAPPER: Not to my knowledge.
CHUCK TODD: If it existed, it would have been in this report?
JAMES CLAPPER: This could have unfolded or become available in the time since I left the government. But at the time, we had no evidence of such collusion.”
The media and Obama had to to kill the Яussian meme they worked so hard to create.

Of course, it is not over because the Obama administration had told a federal judge in FISA court that it needed to wiretap Team Trump because of this non-existent Russian connection.

And now that there is no Russian connection it becomes a question of why Attorney General Loretta Lynch sought in June and then in October to bug the opposition party's campaign.

Enter Chuck Grassley, the Republican senator from Iowa. He heads the Senate Judiciary committee and he has a very sharp staff.

From the Hill:
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) has opened an inquiry into allegations the FBI worked with the British spy who authored a controversial opposition research dossier on President Trump during the 2016 election.
In a Monday letter to FBI Director James Comey, Grassley asked for records pertaining to any agreements the agency may have had with Christopher Steele. The MI6 agent wrote an explosive memo on behalf of Trump’s political enemies alleging that the Russians had compromising information on the president.
Comey briefed Trump on the existence of the memo in a private meeting in January.
Shortly after, several news organizations published the unverified allegations, which the White House denied.
In late February, The Washington Post reported that the FBI reached an agreement with Steele whereby the British spy would continue his investigation on behalf of the bureau.
“While Trump has derided the dossier as 'fake news' compiled by his political opponents, the FBI’s arrangement with Steele shows that the bureau considered him credible and found his information, while unproved, to be worthy of further investigation,” the Post reported at the time.
Grassley is pushing back and demanding the FBI provide information pertaining to its use of the British spy, whose salacious allegations have infuriated Trump and his allies.
I have called this scandal Watergate on Steroids.

And I remember the Senate Watergate Committee in 1973.

This may be the same thing. But this time the target won't be the sitting president.

It will be the one who sat before.

President Trump is crazy.

Like a fox.

Faced with a problem, Donald Trump will develop a solution that will surprise his enemies and amuse his supporters.

This time, not only did he get Obama and the media to kill their own meme, he may have forced the Senate to scrutinize Obama's rogue regime.

    2. Among the allegations is the claim the CIA grabbed Russian malware, which it uses to disguise its own computer hacks so it looks like they originate from Russia. From Zero Hedge:

As Kim Dotcom summarizes this finding, "CIA uses techniques to make cyber attacks look like they originated from enemy state. It turns DNC/Russia hack allegation by CIA into a JOKE"

      ......
So let's summarize. The DHS attempted to hack the voting systems of Georgia, Idaho, and Indiana during the last election, and now it appears the CIA can hack computers with Russian software that makes it look as if the intrusion was carried out by Russia, not by our own Deep State.

What a lovely country we used to have. It appears we may not have managed to keep it. It now belongs to the spooks.

  5. MSM is in full "Cover Obama's Ass" mode.
Now is a good time for Trump to do anything he wants and it will get no scrutiny. He could shut down all visas from everywhere, close the IRS, *whatever* and the MSM will not notice. It's all about saving their Precious.

  6. The Trump Trap: Opens mouth. Says something (the bait). Sticks his tongue out at the media. Media jumps onto his tongue. When enough are there, he rolls them up, brings them in, and chews them up.

    3. After reading a few more articles on-line today, I've decided Trump's tweet is analogous to what I think is called a dead ball combination shot in billiards. The first ball his tweet cue ball hit was the media, but the ball he aimed to pocket all along was Obama. If the wire tapping proves to be true, Wonder Boy's plans with ValJar to wage war against Trump from his tony headquarters in Washington are now dead in its tracks.

  7. So it's a New York Times article that validates Trump's claim. Gee, I thought the media, especially the NYT was "fake news." You Trumpers are a confused bunch. Interesting how the WH refuses to face the media cause it has nothing to substantiate Trump's tweets. Notice how the WH does not cite anything mentioned in this post as proof? In other words, this is fake blog news.
BTW - how is that investigation into massive voter fraud going?

  15. Paragraph 6 of the NYT article is the linchpin, but is it TRUE? It's extremely specific in the details it relates. If it's true, then various people in the Obama administration, maybe even including the former president himself, should be preparing themselves for a long "vacation" in Hotel Leavenworth. But if its claims are false, then Trump probably has grounds even as a public person to file a defamation lawsuit against the NYT, in the neighborhood of $10B or more I'd estimate, depending on the financial worth you accord the prestige and reputation of the Trump brand.

  16. As if things weren't convoluted enough, the following was posted yesterday by John Crudele at the NY Post. It all comes back to Hillary's illicit email server (LOL):

"One of the reasons I predicted Hillary would lose was that the Russians had hacked her emails — along with those of some other Democratic Party higher-ups.

"A very reliable source told me that the Russians did it, through a proxy and — this is the important part — that the National Security Agency had hacked the Russians while the Russians were hacking Hillary.

"So everything the Russians have, the NSA also has. And, as I said back then, the NSA offered those hacked emails — including Hillary’s — to the FBI, which declined the offer."
