US Steel plans to add 10,000 jobs thanks to Trump's election

U.S. Steel CEO Mario Longhi told CNBC today that plans to bring EPA regulations in line with other nations (we are stricter) could mean adding up to 10,000 US Steel jobs in the United States thanks to President Trump.

Elections have consequences.

  6. In 2007, USS bought a Canadian steel company out of bankruptcy and in less than ten years it is selling the Canadian subsidiary to an investment house for some infantesimal smidgen of Canadian dollars. Just announced in November. Put that together with with USS's present 13 US plants with an employee count of over 10,000 but less than 11,000 at these old blast furnace mills and you have to wonder how they can double employee counts anytime soon - since the company 's present management is always selling something to raise cash.

The money-making steel companies in the US, such As Steel Dynamics, a former Mitt Romney client, uses electric-fired furnaces and a whole bunch of scrap metal. The only thing that I can conclude is that the US Steel president thinks he has a sucker on the string in Donald Trump. He certainly watched the ease with which Obama was convinced to be GM's money machine.

On the plus side, if old-fashioned steel production rises, there will be a need for the special coal to make coke from McDowell County mines.

  10. When it comes to making steel nothing performs as economically and efficiently as coke and coal. Obama's EPA regs drove the cost of using coal higher than using natural gas. Repeal the regulations that make it impossible to use coal and voila! new steel mills.

Those won't be low paying jobs, either. I know well the HR VP for a major steel producer near here. They are VERY particular about who they hire. A steel mill, even in the modern ones, is a dangerous place, and you can't be walking around with your head up your ass. Steel companies can't afford to have dummies or druggies stumbling around and getting injured or killed.
