Maureen Dowd's brother to Trump deniers: Too bad

Maureen Dowd reminded readers that pretty much, President Trump has no use for her now. He made it clear he will talk to anyone else at the New York Times, but her.

Then Old Technicolor's brother blasted Trump's critics.

(This is from her November 26 column, which sadly I missed at the time, but enjoyed today.)

(UPDATE: This part was actually written by her Republican brother. Sigh. I should have read more carefully.)

From Miss Dowd:
The election was a complete repudiation of Barack Obama: his fantasy world of political correctness, the politicization of the Justice Department and the I.R.S., an out-of-control E.P.A., his neutering of the military, his nonsupport of the police and his fixation on things like transgender bathrooms. Since he became president, his party has lost 63 House seats, 10 Senate seats and 14 governorships.
And:
Mr. Trump received over 62 million votes, not all of them cast by homophobes, Islamaphobes, racists, sexists, misogynists or any other “ists.” I would caution Trump deniers that all of the crying and whining is not good preparation for the coming storm. The liberal media, both print and electronic, has lost all credibility. I am reasonably sure that none of the mainstream print media had stories prepared for a Trump victory. I watched the networks and cable stations in their midnight meltdown — embodied by Rachel Maddow explaining to viewers that they were not having a “terrible, terrible dream” and that they had not died and “gone to hell.”
And:
As Eddie Murphy so eloquently stated in the movie “48 Hrs.”: “There’s a new sheriff in town.” And he is going to be here for 1,461 days. Merry Christmas.
Looks like someone just got quoted in the sequel.

Have a little fun. Read "Trump the Press," in which I skewer media experts who wrongly predicted Trump would lose the Republican nomination. "Trump the Press" is available as a paperback, and on Kindle.

  1. I think we all have to wonder: "What the Hell got into HER!" I'm really glad it did, but I expect it to wear off quickly.

  3. Don - If you read the column a little closer you will find that the excerpts you quoted were actually written by her brother Kevin in a column that he wrote.

  4. If I read her column correctly, the above quotes are not written by her, rather by her brother Kevin.

  5. "There's a New Sheriff in Town" might just be that book title you were looking for.

  6. Actually, the bulk of the piece was written by her conservative brother, Kevin.

  7. She let her brother write. That's a pretty good sign that she can take hits.

I admire that level of back bone.

  10. One effect of Trump's win already obvious is a severe loss of trust in the Smart Set. The Ivies, the big banks, the corporate media, the super Rich Clinton clients, and so on. Who has credibility any more? Don maybe. He at least was willing to change horses when his original mounts pulled up lame. The NYT will never climb out of this pit but it seems to be happy at the bottom with its smugly snarky readers. The mud is warm there and soothing. Trump's comments may have been meant to help Maureen with these bottom dwellers who will perhaps now forgive her birth into a family of mutants, struck as she was by a bolt from the Devil. And if he performs well he will be come to dominate the sky by day and night like some ancient comet, diverting all interest from the frantic barking of his enemies to himself and his achievements. At least I hope he will but it won't be easy. Maybe Maureen will help a little now from her elevated pedestal, down there.
