Fake news: Trump loss will make Pelosi speaker again

Three weeks before the election, Politico chortled in a headline: "Democrats dream the unthinkable: Speaker Pelosi. Donald Trump's nose dive has suddenly made it possible."

Yep.

That's what they said.

From Politico:
As Donald Trump’s poll numbers tank, dragging the whole GOP down with him, the possibility that Pelosi could return to the speaker’s chair after a six-year absence has suddenly grown very real. No one has done anything like this since the legendary Sam Rayburn did 60 years ago, and it is still unlikely to happen. Yet the House is definitely in play, according to experts on both sides of the aisle, which means the 76-year-old Pelosi could be wielding the speaker’s gavel again come January.
It would be a stunning, almost unthinkable, triumph for Pelosi. Democrats lost 63 seats in 2010, and many thought Pelosi would — or should — retire. But the California lawmaker hung on. Democrats won seats in 2012 as President Barack Obama was reelected, but then were wiped out again in 2014. House Republicans amassed their biggest majority in 80 years, and there was open grumbling from some rank-and-file lawmakers about whether Pelosi should step aside for a younger leader who could bring Democrats back to the promised land.
Pelosi resisted. She saw Republicans oust John Boehner last year and replace him with Paul Ryan, 30 years her junior. Watching the rise of Trump, she started saying months ago that Democrats could take the House. No one really believed her, seeing her comments as just ritualistic posturing by a political leader trying to rally her troops.
Yet now, with less than four weeks to go, Democrats are suddenly hopeful they can pick up the 30 seats they need to recapture the majority.
Pravda was less obvious.
Fake news.

Have a little fun. Read "Trump the Press," in which I skewer media experts who wrongly predicted Trump would lose the Republican nomination. "Trump the Press" is available as a paperback, and on Kindle.

    1. Ohhh yeahhh, Dave. Pardon me for saying this on a Sunday, but I hoot and howl every time another Lib is revealed as a fool these days. I'm getting tired of the victory dances...

      No, actually, I'm not.

    2. Well, y'know, one school of thought calls it the day of rest on account of that's the day when you get the rest of the stuff done that you didn't manage to on the other six days.

The divergent messages from the CIA and the FBI put a spotlight on the difficulty faced by intelligence and law enforcement officials as they try to draw conclusions about the Kremlin's motives for hacking Democratic Party emails during the 2016 race. Officials are frequently looking at information that is fragmentary. They also face issues assessing the intentions of a country expert at conducting sophisticated "influence" operations that made it hard - if not impossible - to conclusively detect the Kremlin's elusive fingerprints. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-russian-election-tampering-cia-fbi-20161210-story.html this paragraph is purposely written backwards, starting with the assumption that Russia hacked and then ending by noting that this isn't determined.
The assumption of Russian guilt is established in the mind of the reader before they are told that the accusation is unsubstantiated.

    1. Doc, I know you're a smart guy, but this latest thing is a complete joke. Hell, tomorrow, we'll have some high ranking Democrat official on TV saying that it was actually ALIENS - I mean, the ones from outer space, right? - who rigged the vote for Trump. These people have lost their minds and they need some good in-home care services.

    2. If the Russians did hack the Democrat servers, it serves to emphasize how reckless and irresponsible Hillary was in setting up her own amateurishly "secured" email server. That notion doesn't seem to have occurred to the Democrats, much less Hillary herself. I'm wondering whether the light bulb over Dimocrat noggins will ever turn on.

    3. The really funny thing is that it's OK when we do it. I just saw a pic of a cover of an old news magazine that bragged about how our intelligence agencies fixed the election of Yeltsin.

    4. And it was OK for Obama to meddle in a recent Israeli election in an effort to defeat Netanyahu's bid for re-election? The Democrats must think we all have short memories. And PS, AFAIK, the allegations about possible Russian interference are not official agency positions, but rather unsubstantiated allegations made by a few anonymous sources whose reliability has not been vouched for.

    5. Yet even FNC is saying a "CIA Report" says that . . . . Not a danged report, a leak/political rumor would be more accurate. And again we hear that 17 intelligence organizations say the Russians did it. Since Obama has fired or crushed too many of the people that input or develop intelligence, what can one believe just like we get to keep our insurance and doctors, right.
