Voodoo economics

A bunch of pundits in the #NeverTrump movement are pointing out that Chris Christie badmouth Donald Trump in the past before endorsing Trump on Friday.

I have two words for them: Voodoo economics.

The Los Angeles Times reported this on April 14, 1980:
"He [Bush] signaled the shift [in strategy] in a speech here [in Pittsburgh] last week when he charged that Reagan had made 'a list of phony promises' on defense, energy and economic policy. And he labeled Reagan's tax cut proposal 'voodoo economic policy' and 'economic madness.' "
Now then, everyone who is anyone knows that campaigns are not bean bag. Trump not only hits back twice as hard, he also knows when to let bygones be bygones.

So did Reagan.

  1. On Friday Greta was pressing Christie hard about previously saying Trump was not suited to be President. Christie danced around it without making the obvious point that you just did.

  2. Trump is most emphatically NOT anything like Ronald Reagan, Don, and not fit to shine Reagan's shoes.

    1. Dennis - Were you around when Reagan was running for office in 1980? You should have heard what they were saying about Reagan back then "voodoo economics" was one of the nicer things.

  3. There's a case to be made for the other candidates, but the #NeverTrump people are trading in the Gish Gallop debating tactic. It really does not surprise me that characters from the John Podhoretz coterie are engaged in this, but Daniel Pipes and Pacal Emmanuel Gobry make for a big disappointment. One thing that incidents like this reveal is that a bubble encases Republicans in New York - Washington opinion journalism almost as reliably as it encases Capitol Hill and K Street.
