MSNBC: Clinton investigation progresses

The FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton keeps dripping along. The latest drop fell from Mark Halperin, veteran liberal pundit, on the "Morning Joe" show on MSNBC  this morning.

Curiously, Fox News has been blowing off this scandal.

Via News Busters:
JOE SCARBOROUGH: To Mark, I have to tell you from a network executive high up in another network that we all know that asked when we were going to start talking about what most of us around this table are hearing from multiple sources and I'm sure you are, too: that the Hillary Clinton investigation of the FBI is far more progressed and we're hearing it, Mika and I have been hearing it, from the top officials in the Obama administration for actually several months now and we can't go to a meeting in Washington where we don't hear that. I'm sure you're hearing the same thing. What is -- what are your -- all of our sources high up are telling us -- and Nicolle is hearing the same thing, that this investigation's far more advanced than we the public knows. What are you hearing?
MARK HALPERIN: Well, there are three things people are keying off of, Joe. First of all, there's a lot of chatter amongst FBI agents, many of whom have never been big fans of the Clintons, but a lot of FBI agents seem to be saying something is happening here. Second is, from a legal point of view, you look at some of the recent developments we've talked about here on the program, it's hard to see how the Justice Department, the FBI, doesn't want to interview Secretary Clinton. And that interview alone short of an indictment, short of anything else, that would be a huge political development, it would undermine confidence in some Democrats in the notion of going forward with Secretary Clinton. And the last thing is there are some people in the White House who are starting to talk about this. It's not clear to me whether they know what's happening or there's just their intuition but the body language among some Obama administration officials is: this is more serious and something's going to happen. Again, the timing of it could be, if not cataclysmic, pretty bad for Secretary Clinton.
My understanding is the interview of the suspect is the finl thing they do.

Smart money says President Obama will block taking the case to a federal grand jury. I'm taking the points and saying he will not. He throws friends under the bus, why not a woman he cannot stand?

  2. My gut feeling is that Hillary Clinton's cavalier attitude towards document security, intelligence security wasn't talked about so much because it was part of the culture of Foggy Bottom. If it had been abnormal to treat secret material this way - moving it from the secured to unsecured systems - someone would have gone to the FBI a long time ago. Since there is no indication that any career State Department official did so my instinct tells me that this was normal practice.

If I am correct then the reason that so many FBI agents are assigned to this is because the rot they uncovered is so extensive and covers so many people.

We'll see how correct my gut is in coming months - if there are a lot of sudden retirements from State.

    1. From the size and scope of the FBI investigative task force, the anti-Clinton rumor mill would have people believe Hillary, Huma Abedin, and Cheryl Mills may all need to lawyer up, and that perhaps ALL the principals of the Clinton Foundation, not just Hillary but perhaps even husband Bill and daughter Chelsea, should worry about where the FBI investigation is headed. Can you imagine the repercussions if the entire Clinton family, including a former president, were subject to criminal charges? It would be one of the most remarkable events in the history of this nation. What a nightmare.

    2. For someone who has had a Top Secret/SAP clearance for 25 years of my life, this IS a big deal. Sources, methods, capabilities, and PEOPLE were compromised, if only half of what we've heard so far is true. If I'd been involved in something like this, I'd be looking at 25-30 years at Leavenworth. If Clinton gets off scott-free, we no longer live in a Republic, but an oligarchy. That would be time for rebellion.

  3. "My understanding is the interview of the suspect is the finl thing they do."

If she willingly answers their questions, they will be looking to see if she lies to the investigators and by doing so opens herself to charges of obstruction of justice. Given Hillary's high profile, the DoJ could have a difficult case to prosecute for her mishandling of secret documents or public corruption involving the Clinton Foundation. A standard prosecutorial tactic would then be to threaten her with obstruction of justice and plea bargain her down to entering a guilty plea on lesser charges, which would still effectively end her campaign. The intriguing question then is: Is Hillary, a former lawyer, smarter than Scooter Libby, who fell right into the politically motivated obstruction trap that had been set for him by the Special Prosecutor?

  4. Hillary should already fending off other bull dykes in a federal pen, but I'll be shocked if she ever spends one night.

  5. Scooter was set up. Who will set up Hillary?

  6. Obama may hate the Clintons, but her prosecution will wreck the Democrats and his first inclination is preservation of the party uber alles. Of course, if he doesn't prosecute, she'll be tried in the court of public opinion during the campaign, especially if she's facing Trump. Then the entire Party gets sucked into the vortex of the Clinton Crime Family and the Obama Crime Syndicate's enabling of it. Which means...wait for Congress ready to impeach if by some miracle of ballot box stuffing she gets elected.

Which means the clever thing to do would be to throw her and her entire entourage under the prison bus. And that entourage may encompass much of the upper echelons of the State Department...which is going to have as many Republicans to poke a stick at as a Democratic National Convention.

But wait...for it...if the tentacles run Wright into the Oval Office? At that point the White House may simply be paralyzed. If they do nothing, it destroys the Party. If they do something, it destroys the Party. And an army of lifetime law enforcement types are sitting on a transparent case of treason by high government officials during a time of war...

  9. I wouldn't be surprised if Shrillary suddenly announced that some medical issues are causing her to suspend her campaign. In return for quietly slinking away her prosecution would be held in abeyance. Huma, Cheryl and the IT guy, on the other hand, may not be so lucky.
