In a piece entitled "7 Reasons Why Trump Will Win," longtime newspaperman Nicco Mele concluded:
Well, boo hoo hoo. Too bad. The press surrendered its role as a counterweight to power when it failed to hold Candidate Barack Obama accountable for any of his past associations, any of his hollow promises, and any of his demagoguery. Trump's supporters now are free to brush aside the press because they know the press is in bed with President Obama and all the radical self-proclaimed communists like Van Jones and Bill Ayers who supported him. The press committed Obamacide in Metropolis, Illinois, in February 2007 when Senator Obama announced for the presidency. Joe the Plumber faced more press hostility than Obama. So to the press Trump supporters say:The most troubling thing for me in the entire Trump candidacy so far is the way he flummoxes journalists. Chuck Todd did an admirable job this morning — but was brushed aside, as many others before him. What does it mean to be a journalist — to hold power accountable — when power (and the public?) seems not to care too much about being held accountable?
