Now global warming causes the Earth to cool

Climatology is the 21st century's phrenology. This false science appeals to the sneering and snarking pseudo-academic crowd who are confused by weather.

From the Express:
Major theories about what causes temperatures to rise have been thrown into doubt after NASA found the Earth has cooled in areas of heavy industrialisation where more trees have been lost and more fossil fuel burning takes place.
Environmentalists have long argued the burning of fossil fuels in power stations and for other uses is responsible for global warming and predicted temperature increases because of the high levels of carbon dioxide produced -- which causes the global greenhouse effect.
While the findings did not dispute the effects of carbon dioxide on global warming, they found aerosols -- also given off by burning fossil fuels -- actually cool the local environment, at least temporarily.
The research was carried out to see if current climate change models for calculating future temperatures were taking into account all factors and were accurate.
A NASA spokesman said: "To quantify climate change, researchers need to know the Transient Climate Response (TCR) and Equilibrium Climate Sensitivity (ECS) of Earth.
"Both values are projected global mean surface temperature changes in response to doubled atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations but on different timescales.
"TCR is characteristic of short-term predictions, up to a century out, while ECS looks centuries further into the future, when the entire climate system has reached equilibrium and temperatures have stabilised."
They don't know if the temperature is going up or down. Bur who the hell cares? So what if the Earth's temperature goes up or if it goes down? A Mini Ice Age beginning in 1600 or so did not stop the exploration of the New World. A few hot summers in the 1980s actually helped feed more people than it killed.

We have wasted billions chasing this unicorn thanks to that jackass James Hansen -- who became a millionaire while on the government payroll pushing this twaddle. Carbon dioxide is a nutrient and trying to halt its production is ridiculous.

What did Richard Feynman say?
In the South Seas there is a cargo cult of people. During the war they saw airplanes land with lots of good materials, and they want the same thing to happen now. So they've arranged to imitate things like runways, to put fires along the sides of the runways, to make a wooden hut for a man to sit in, with two wooden pieces on his head like headphones and bars of bamboo sticking out like antennas — he's the controller — and they wait for the airplanes to land. They're doing everything right. The form is perfect. It looks exactly the way it looked before. But it doesn't work. No airplanes land. So I call these things cargo cult science, because they follow all the apparent precepts and forms of scientific investigation, but they're missing something essential, because the planes don't land.
What does this have to do with science?

We've learned from experience that the truth will come out. Other experimenters will repeat your experiment and find out whether you were wrong or right. Nature's phenomena will agree or they'll disagree with your theory. And, although you may gain some temporary fame and excitement, you will not gain a good reputation as a scientist if you haven't tried to be very careful in this kind of work. And it's this type of integrity, this kind of care not to fool yourself, that is missing to a large extent in much of the research in cargo cult science.
And what did Ike Eisenhower say in his farewell speech as president?
Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present – and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.
We were warned.

  1. Climate science is observational postulating. To prove the CO2 correlate, it's emissions would have to be, say, cut in half for 50 years and their present day models, never altered, tested for accuracy. This will never ever happen and they have always understood that it won't. In that sense they are worse than Feynman's cargo cultists who at least believed in their method.

  2. Hayek and Popper also warned about turning "science" into a religion: scientism.

  3. This is very old news. It's been accepted for quite a long time that the particulates and aerosols in "dirty air" resulting from burning coal to generate electricity have a cooling effect and that past efforts to clean up the air in America have had a bit of a warming effect. Since "clean air" is a worthy goal from other, major health considerations, there is every reason for climate models to assume that clean air is the long-term state of the atmosphere. More dubious is the assertion by the authors that the neglect of aerosol cooling means that the warming effects of CO2 have been underestimated. Global climate models are still much too simplistic in the way they deal with the warming effect of green house gasses like CO2.

  4. Remember when the AGW folks tried to tell us that the Polar Express was caused by warming at the North Pole? Now we find that NOAA, which keeps telling us that every year is the warmest ever and every month is the warmest ever has been cherry picking their data from selected recording stations. NOAA, the gummint agency that claims the seas will rise three feet in the next 100 years. These are our tax dollars at work.

  5. "We've learned from experience that the truth will come out. Other experimenters will repeat your experiment and find out whether you were wrong or right."

    1. Not a lot of repeating experiments.
    2. When they are done, and don't agree with previous results, the warmenists attack furiously.
