Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis should resign

Democrat Kim Davis, clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky, does not want to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Fine. Let her resign, because that is her job, the issuance of marriage licenses. She should either follow the law or her religious convictions.

What would Jesus do? Walk away. Render unto the Supreme Court that which is the Supreme Court's.

I admire her belief that marriage is between a man and a woman and God. If she were a bakery or a minister or anyone else in private industry, I could see her refusal. But I do not want the woman at the DMV -- Department of Marriage Validation -- pushing her atheism, Taoism, Christianity or any other religion while on the government clock.

This is not Hobby Lobby. This is its opposite.

The Daily Caller said, "Kentucky Clerk ‘Out Of Options’ In Gay-Marriage Dispute, May Face Stiff Penalties."

So she should resign. She is not above the law. No elected official is.

  1. Miss Davis should claim she's a conscientious objector.............hell it worked for others (sic).

  2. Interesting that she took a fundamentalist position, but resign? She's a democrat. Democrats don't resign for any reason.

  3. A fundamentalist Democrat? Isn't that an oxymoron? Would love to see a pacifist who refuses to issue concealed carry permits because Jesus was peace-loving get elected to the post. Let's see if the God card plays just as well as it is doing for Davis in Backwoods, KY.

  4. Someone remind me: what law did she break? Because, unless I've missed something, the USSC does not write or make law...(but keep on pretending to be a conservative, Surber--you and Ms.Fiorina--who doesn't, apparently, grasp simple facts of elementary civics).

    1. Anon - you're kidding right about "what law did she break" question? Do you not read/watch the news. If you aren't even informed, then there is no use trying to explain current events to you. I disagree with Surber, oh about 98 percent of the time, but I am with him on this one. Ms. Davis is not above the Constitution. Don't like it, then escort her out of this country.

  5. If she's smart she'll just say she's creating a sanctuary county for traditional marriage. That would shut all the leftists up.

  6. So I guess we need to go back in time and arrest all those mayors who allowed gay marriages before it became the "law" of the land.

    1. Teaparty - Mayors don't validate marriages. Geesh. Are you aware that a Republican judge who has openly admitted that he disagrees with the Supreme Court ruling which is at the heart of this whole debate is the very same person who ordered Davis to jail. His reason: "I have to obey the law." What does Davis not understand about that she too has to obey the law? A conflict, simple, then resign. No more conflict of conscious.

    2. Judges do NOT write law, not even the supreme injustices of the court. They interpret it, but it still takes a law not an interpretation. If they want to legislate, they need to step down from the bench and campaign for congress.
If they want to order a legislature to write a law, the legislature can still flip them the middle finger in the same way the California Courts flipped off the voters.

    3. Jeremy - You watch too much Judge Judy. The SCOTUS's interpretation and subsequent ruling changed the law. SMH. Total apples and oranges of the Davis ruling to whatever obscure California Courts reference you are making. The Republican majority SCOTUS and Republican District Judge who ruled against Davis made their decisions based on the law of the land. The mere fact Davis has no legal recourse (just a lot of rhetoric) shows she is in the wrong. If she can't follow the law because it conflicts with her faith, then she needs to resign. If I lived in her county, I'd be furious my taxpayer dollars are being wasted on her lost cause.
