How Democrats ruined America's school cafeterias

Lobbyists for government employees, who overwhelmingly are Democratic Party, the election of Barack Obama as president was Santa coming to town. The School Nutrition Association -- the overpaid educrats who run the school cafeterias -- succeeded in getting Democrats to hand them $10 billion in money taxpayers don't have. That's on top of existing federal aid, state money, local money, and what kids get paid.

Face it, government officials are Hungry, Hungry Hippos when it comes to money.

But there were strings attached -- and those strings choked off another money supply. Kids are not buying or eating the federalized school lunch menu. Five years after fleecing the taxpayers, 70 percent of the educrats in the School Nutrition Association report they are losing money on the deal and having to cut staff.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

From the Washington Examiner:
"Meeting these mandates has harmed the financial health of nearly 70 percent of school meal programs surveyed, with fewer than 3 percent reporting a financial benefit," said the survey. Some 49 percent of the responding schools said they were forced to cut cafeteria staff as a result.
The financial threat to school food programs has become so grave that the association is calling on Congress to provide more money. The association said that schools are being ordered by the Agriculture Department to absorb another $1.2 billion in added costs resulting from having to buy more expensive — and less attractive — foods to meet the federal regulations.
I do not feel the slightest empathy for this six-figure pencil pushers. They turned school cafeterias into billion -dollar busts. They made their beds.

In 2010, conservatives said this would happen. My late sister, a lunch lady, told me kids would not eat it. She was right.

By the way, given the contradictory nature of nutrition studies over the years -- salt is good one day, bad the next -- this was foolishness from the get-go.

  1. Big oil, big lobbyists, etc. Now big cafeteria.................

  2. Moochelle is and was not a nutritionist, nor acquainted with many (any?) children who attend public schools.

  3. The feds already proved they can't run a whore house. Now they've proven they can't run a lunch wagon. And, we have to rely on them for important things like the VA. It is little wonder so much gets screwed up or not done at all.
