Like most conservatives, I know CNN is as lefty as MSNBC, but unlike its twin, CNN is in deep denial. CNN host Don Lemon, though, is drawing praise from Media-ite and News Busters for attacking political correctness.
In so doing, he follows the lead of Jerry Seinfeld who stepped back into the spotlight to knock liberal repression of speech.
First Seinfeld, who complained about negative reaction to a joke about a gay French king: "I can imagine a time when people say, 'Well, that's offensive to suggest that a gay person moves their hands in a flourishing motion, and you now need to apologize.' I mean, there's a creepy PC thing out there that really bothers me."
Well, it is just jokes, folks, right?
But Lemon saw something a little bigger -- the intolerance -- the refusla to hear a second side.
In a radio commentary, he said, "We have to stop looking for reasons to be offended. We have to allow people leeway to make mistakes in conversations without calling them racist, bigots, stupid, dumb, sell outs and on and on. Not everyone is going to or do they have to agree with you. In fact, it’s better when people don’t agree with you. That’s how we learn."
And then he jeopardized his job by saying: "After almost 25 years in the news business, you know who is the most easily offended and the least tolerant: Liberals and progressive – because many of them don’t really want to hear anyone else’s opinion but their own. Here’s a tip, if you only agree with people who hold your same political affiliation or who are of your particular race, gender or ethnicity, you are part of the political correctness run amuck problem. You are actually thwarting progress instead of advancing."
Oh, they won't get him for that but CNN staffers will remember it. If he is gone within the next year, do not be surprised.
