The problem is, what would ABC replace it with? Bad ratings aside, it is cheap to produce and still turns a slow hour into a profit center. The problem everyone else figured out ill-informed celebrities can churn out commentary to entertain the unemployed who rise out of bed at 11 a.m.
From the London Daily Mail:
Retired news legend Barbara Walters still has some clout - and a strong opinion about how ABC can turn things around at the ratings-challenged show she created, The View.
Barbara's magic bullet: Monica Lewinsky.
Walters says that the former White House intern would be a 'run away success' on The View, a network source tells Daily Mail Online.
She would attract great guests -- even if casting her as a regular co-host would make it unlikely that potential 2016 Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton or President Bill Clinton would ever appear on the show again. If true, Miss Walters may be feeling a little liberal guilt over the way all the other liberals dumped on her 17 years ago. Miss Lewinsky would give us a unique perspective on politics -- from under the desk.
Look for another new cast next fall with an average age 10 years younger than the 50s-something now on the show. It will go on, but the Bush era buzz is gone. I don't think Lewinsky will bring it back.
