Fact-checking Cheney on Obama

Radio star Hugh Hewitt interviewed Vice President Dick Cheney and the subjected turned to the one and only President Barack Obama.
Hewitt: "Is he na├»ve, Mr. Vice President? Or does he have a far-reaching vision that only he entertains of a realigned Middle East that somehow it all works out in the end?"
Cheney: "I don’t know, Hugh. I vacillate between the various theories I've heard, but you know, if you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down, who wanted to fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries, it would look exactly like what Barack Obama’s doing. I think his actions are constituted in my mind those of the worst president we've ever had."
Is Obama by his actions taking down the United States?

Let us fact-check Vice President Cheney's opinion, shall we?

Please notice that Cheney is careful not to say that Obama wants to take America down. His exact words are "if you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down." With that qualifier, Cheney does not have to prove any intention on Obama's part.

But the questions remain: Does Obama's actions "fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries"?

Well, the national treasury is broke. In six years he has almost doubled a national debt that took 219 years to create. That weakens the nation.

As for the economy, a record 92 million adults have no job. That weakens the nation.

When he took office the economy was weak, true, but this has been the slowest recovery in the nation's history, prolonged by his various stimulus scheme which only added to the national debt. His first one actually accelerated unemployment beyond the expected high of 9% to a whopping 10.5%. That weakens the nation.

When he took office, Iran was flanked by nascent secular republics in Iraq and Afghanistan. On his watch, Iraq has been overrun by the Islamic State and has been forced to seek aid from Iran, while Afghanistan is a smoldering mess. That weakens the nation.

Russia regained power on President Bush's watch, annexing part of Georgia. Under President Obama, Putin's pace has quickened. From Ukraine, to Poland, to the Baltic states and even Scandinavia, nations are preparing for a war with Russia that they assume they will have to battle alone as the United States no longer seems involved with Nato. That weakens the nation.

President Obama has spurned and shunned Israel, giving rise to fears among other allies thatthey will be the next to be knifed in the back. That weakens the nation.

From Tunisia to Yemen, Muslim states are in rebellion as the Islamic State and other al-Qaeda-style groups prepare for another Holy War against Christians -- Jews -- Buddhists -- Hindus -- you nam it. Obama encouraged this in his Cairo speech in 2009, calling it an Arab Spring. That weakens the nation.

Obamacare turned the world's best health system upside down in an effort to force people who had not signed up for Medicaid to sign up. The takeover of the nation's health insurance industry is good new for the companies, bad news for the customers. That weakens the nation.

On his watch, Navy Seals killed Osama bin Laden. But that only gave America the false hope that the Global War On Terrorism is over. It is not. Instead, we took our guard down. That weakens the nation.

Finally, racial strife rose in the last six years as Obama repeatedly encourages black anger toward whites over news events that are ill-reported by the media. While we fight among ourselves, the world crumbles.  That weakens the nation.

So out of the 10 criterion examined, Dick Cheney was correct on all 10.

Dick Cheneyiwas 100% accurate when he said, "I don’t know, Hugh.
