You can keep your popcorn. Period

Conservatives warned America that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was a merely a power grab by the federal bureaucracy? We said you would not keep your doctor, you would not keep your plan, and you certainly would not save $2,500. In fact, a record number of Americans can no longer afford health care because of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

It was all so predictable. We were right. Don't ever forget that. Label every one of their power grabs "Obamacare." Immigration reform is the Obamacare of border control. Et cetera.

Having screwed up health care, now we learn Obamacare is screwing up movie theater popcorn.

From the Los Angeles Times:
Movie theater chains will have to inform patrons how many calories are in those giant buckets of popcorn and restaurants with at least 20 locations will have to reveal the calorie content of their specialty cocktails under new rules unveiled by the Food and Drug Administration.
What the hell?
The FDA rules, published Tuesday, aim to set a national standard for posting calorie information on virtually all menu items sold in chain restaurants, entertainment venues and vending machines. When fully implemented two years from now, they will bring uniformity to the patchwork of state and local calorie-posting requirements that exist today.
The rules, drafted under a provision of the Affordable Care Act, will apply to chains that have 20 or more locations operating under the same name and offering “basically the same menu items,” the FDA said.
“Increased awareness about the choices we make certainly does not mean that we always eat what is healthy,” FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg wrote Tuesday on her blog. “But whether we choose to eat French fries or a tuna sandwich, those selections should reflect informed decision-making. That can only happen if the right information is available to make those choices.”
Oh hell no. Get the hell out of my food, government. You know nothing about food. One year you tell me cholesterol is bad, the next you say some is. You are wrong about table salt and sugar. You are wrong about just about everything, as a matter of fact.

It is none of the government's business what I eat. In fact, dump the FDA. Who needs it? We are not children who need the government to protect us from ourselves.

This law has nothing to do with health and everything to do with power.

Republicans could not repeal this piece of dog doo fast enough.

There goes the entire democrat platform.

We predicted the outcomes of Obamacare and were called everything from morons (which is what the democrats were played for by their own people: Gruber, etc.) to racists. Wonder how long before the nanny-staters will decide you can no longer have buttered popcorn with, God forbid, extra salt because getting rid of it is "the right thing to do" or "for the common good." The two tenets of leftist fundamentalism. No stretch to say I hate the modern democrat party.

  2. When I look at food labels, I only look at ingredients. I could not care less about caloric content of every item I buy. I know there is a contingent out there that thinks like I; I wonder how many we are? AFAIC, these labeling regulations are bureaucratic mental masturbation.

    1. Hands up; don't eat buttered popcorn. Actually, I never count calories. Too much bother. If I'm putting on a little weight, I trim my food portions and I exercise a little more. My weight has been steady, +/- 5 pounds, for more than a decade.

  3. I believe there are people who are genetically biased towards needing to control. It's an addiction like alcohol, cigarettes, etc. and the more control you get the better the high. Many of these people find there way into the government where they can binge control. Progressivism is hardcore control. These types must lie like an alcoholic about their drinking/addiction. When you confront them about there problem they go rabid and attack back...it's never about the issue it's about loosing control that freaks them out.

  4. I just did a quick calculation and if we would have saved 2,500 USD a year on obamacare we could have bought 357 large tubs (family size) of popcorn at the theater...

  5. The Dems/Libs/Progs/ Fascists just KNOW they're smarter than we are and should therefore tell us what we should do.

  6. The FDA?

Like they dont have enough to do. I mean every big pharma commercial is advertising a drug with 50 side effects and every other drug commercial is a lawsuit for victims of bad drug side effects or medical device malpractice.

  7. This is merely an expansion of ObamaRxCare's fascism.

More rent-seeking for the huge conglomerates to have the gov't regulate away their competition.
